The folks at Westboro Baptist don’t come off as being too bright so punking them was probably pretty easy for the Foo Fighters.
The hate-spewing church group was picketing the band outside Kansas’ City, MO’s Sprint Center when they were ambushed by the band, who showed up a few hours early, riding in a big rig truck draped in American flags, disguised in the ZZ Top-esque outfits from their country trucker parody “Keep It Clean (Hot Buns)” (you can see the uncensored, naked, wet, Queen-laced tour promo video here; it’s worth a gander) and serenaded the protestors with the song, which includes lyrics like, Driving all night, got a hankering for something/Think I'm in the mood for some hot-man muffins …
Best part: HuffPo reports that during a musical interlude Dave Grohl had these words for the crowd: “God Bless America! It takes all kinds; I don't care if you're black or white or purple or green, whether you're Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum. Men loving women and women loving men and men loving men and women loving women—you all know we like to watch that. But what I'd like to say is, God Bless America, y'all!”
Hopefully more of Westboro’s protest targets will come up with counter-actions that are this clever, cool and entertaining in the future. We don’t think Westboro knows how to be embarrassed but this should have been a damn good tutorial.
