We understand that Scandinavian countries have a more adult attitude about adult activities than we do in the U.S. … but can it be that even the wildlife is more wild?
Peter Lundgren, 43, had just gone out onto his balcony for some fresh air when he was confronted with the site of three elk engaging in what looked like group sex (with slightly tree-obscured pic, thanks to Lundgren’s speedy camera work). And it looks to us just the way it looked to Lundgren.
“Lundgren quickly grabbed his camera to document the young male elk mounting an older female elk which in turn appeared to be sniffing or licking the rear end of another young male elk,” reported Sweden’s The Local. Lindgren is used to seeing elk get “tipsy from eating fermented apples,” but the live quadruped threesome was a surprise (though the young male didn’t appear to have fully completed his attempt).
“I'd never seen anything like it. Not with elk, at least,” he said.
Pär Grängstedt, a researcher from the Grimsö Wildlife Research Station, said that it was unusual to see elk mating in a residential area, especially now, since their mating season ended earlier this month. It’s not unusual, though, for them to put on a show.
“Usually there are several males in the area competing to be with the in-heat female. The strongest one usually wins, and the others are left to watch,” he said.
