The most erotic sound in the world is … Israeli warplanes. If you’re a crocodile, that is.
The daily Maariv, an Israeli newspaper, reported on Sunday that certain reptilian creatures are highly aroused by the sound of warplanes breaking the sound barrier above them — when the sonic boom of the jets occur in the air above a crocodile breeding farm in the Golan Heights, the crocs start making their mating calls, indicating they’re in the mood for love.
David Golan, head of crocodile breeding at the Hamat Gader park, told Maariv that the mating calls are pretty loud themselves. “The powerful squealing noises, reminiscent of the sound of a car braking, can be heard from hundreds of metres around.”
Of course, crocodile arousal wasn’t necessarily intended by the Israeli army, which performs training runs above the farm. The sonic boom just happens to get the crocs riled up — but seeing as the actual breeding season doesn’t start until summer, currently the beasts are all bark and no bite.
