“The Democrats want me to live on their plantation as their slave, because I’m a gay person,” says Taylor Garrett, a gay Republican (What? They do so too exist! Matter of fact, half the reason Garrett's on TV is to prove it!) from the reality TV show A-list Dallas. “And I refuse to do that.”
And why should he? Being gay doesn't mean you automatically should agree with the beliefs of one political party or another. And not all Republicans believe homosexuality is a mortal sin.
But what sparked Garrett's comment? Garrett says he was at a friend's party when someone attacked not only his person, but his affiliation with Ann Coulter.
“I was at a party and one of my friends arrived and I had a present for him, so I went back to my car to get the present,” he recalled. “When I walked out to my car, I saw someone squatting next to my car.”
Naturally, Garrett asked the man what he was doing, but when the fellow backed away, it was all too obvious. The man was keying Garrett's car. Carved in giant letters were the words “Fuck Coulter.” That's when the guy stood up and punched Garrett in the eye. Then Garrett fell in some glass and got a few scrapes.
Though photos of Garrett covered in blood were released to the media, he's being accused of using this situation to drum up support for himself and his plight. Garrett says that's just not true. In fact, he's considered not returning to television next year.
“I would’ve thought people would have been a little more tolerant considering that our community advocates for tolerance, but it has been nothing but mean spirited attacks, especially after the Ann Coulter scene,” he said.
