This week, regulations were approved mandating that health insurance companies cover birth control without a co-pay. This, of course, is being marked as a historic event by organizations such as Planned Parenthood. However, quite a few conservative groups are upset. So upset, in fact, we're not sure they're even thinking before they open their mouths.
“We’re $14 trillion in debt and now we’re going to cover birth control, breast pumps, counseling for abuse? Are we going to do pedicures and manicures as well?” asked Sandy Rios, the Family PAC Federal Vice President. “Having a baby is not the worst thing. I think having multiple sex partners without any kind of restraint or responsibility is much more damning.”
Wait, what? So birth control, breast pumps and counseling are just as trivial as getting your nails done? And having multiple sex partners is worse than having a baby before your ready and possibly ruining both your lives? This woman's a genius. Or perhaps she owns a health insurance company?
Oh but it gets better. GOP Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says we're killing ourselves by providing women with birth control.
“If you applied that preventative medicine universally what you end up with is you've prevented a generation. Preventing babies from being born is not medicine. That's not—that's not constructive to our culture and our civilization. If we let our birth rate get down below replacement rate we're a dying civilization,” King said on the House floor on Monday night.
Because 307 million people taxing the resources our homeland provides isn't enough. We need more people!
We're thinking our civilization would be doing just fine without these people all up in the uteri of people they don't even know.
