Conan O’Brien didn’t have to do anything more to win our hearts than he already has in his years on TV, but isn’t it just like him to go the extra mile?
Vulture was the first to report that, to commemorate his first year anniversary at TBS, Conan will officiate a same-sex marriage ceremony while he’s taping Conan at the Beacon Theater in NYC this week. It’s no PR stunt: the lucky couple are a longtime Conan staff member and his partner. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg did the same for two of his staffers in July when same-sex marriage was legalized in New York.
Vulture reminds us that the only other wedding to be performed on late-night TV was that of [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8gloxeHOLk |Tiny Tim and Miss Vicki in 1969.
Time’s News Feed wonders whether Conan can legally officiate a wedding ceremony but Sex Feed, ever a step ahead, checked in with the Universal Life Church which provides online ordination (what, you didn’t think did it?) and the their website confirms that indeed, Mr. O’Brien was ordained on October 21.
Go Team Coco! We love a wedding for which we don’t have to buy a gift. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry but most important, we’ll watch.
