Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts reveals a childhhod marked by poverty, neglect and physical and sexual abuse in his autobiography "Against All Odds." The book is scheduled to be released Monday; The Boston Globe obtained a copy prior to release.
The Globe says Brown graphically describes being sexually abused at age 10 by a counselor at a Christian summer camp on Cape Cod. He did not name the camp or the counselor.
“I can remember how he looked, every inch of him: his long sandy, light brown hair; his long, full mustache; the beads he wore; the tie-dyed T-shirts and the cutoff jeans, which gave him the look of a hippie,’’ Brown writes.
Brown will be interviewed on Sunday on 60 Minutes.
The Globe interviewed victims of sexual abuse who praised Brown for coming forward. “Senator Brown’s decision to speak publicly about his own abuse helps lend a voice to survivors around the world,’’ said victim Gary Bergeron, 48, of Salem, N.H.
We hope great good comes from Brown bringing the issue forward.
