There's a sexual health clinic in Edinburgh, Scotland that's under fire for the sign on its front door. The sign says “Chalmers Sexual Health Clinic.” Apparently, some patients are worried about being labeled “skanks” for seeking medical help, so they won't pass through the doors of the center, which opened in June and cost the equivalent of about $13 million.
Critics of the center say blatant disregard for discretion isn't the only issue patients face. Unfortunately, hold times on the phone system are inordinately long, and wait time in the clinic leaves something to be desired.
“As with any new building or service, we occasionally come across teething problems, and we are currently evaluating how the service is operating to see if there are any improvements we can make. As part of this evaluation, we are keen to take on board the views of patients and staff about all aspects of the service,” said Jamie Megaw, Strategic Programme Manager for Sexual Health Services.
Good on them. Here's hoping all that money wasn't wasted.
