Just last week, Washington University announced they'd invited Sarah Palin's unwed, teen-mom daughter, Bristol Palin, to be a speaker and panelist at their Student Sexual Responsibility Week.
When students got wind, they began to protest. Not only because Palin had a baby as a teenager, but also because the college was paying Palin some thousands of dollars to speak at the event.
Even a celebrity got involved. Kate Walsh, best known for her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery in "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy", tweeted, “Welcome to the Idiocracy!...please join students at Wash.U. to boycott Bristol Palin's speech on abstinence. What does she know about college or abstaining?”
According to a statement released by Washington University, Palin and the university agreed “that the message that they intended on sharing would be overshadowed by controversy,” so Palin stepped down.
Controversy, shmontroversy. We'd like to know what genius thought hiring a teen mom to talk about abstinence would be a good idea. No matter who she's related to.
