We've resisted for a whole month the temptation to pay attention to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, around whom swirls the world's best political sex scandal. I mean, we don't want to get bored with it or anything. But we thought we'd check in today.
Berlusconi is saying that the latest sex accusations he faces just aren't true. The Italian media is gleefully publishing court documents that give details of orgies at the prime minister's home near Milan in which women “touched or were touched intimately by Silvio Berlusconi.” He's also accused of having sex with an then-underaged Moroccan teenager 13 times. The Moroccan teen, Karima el Mahroug, also known as Ruby, denies having sex with the politician.
In Italy, none of this is enough to force a public official from office, obviously. Berlusconi goes to trial in about three weeks. Isn't it fun to imagine how this would play out in the United States?
In Europe, they're amused. A Warsaw, Poland, a pizzeria called A Modo Mi has created a “bunga bunga” pizza in tribute to the Italian prime minister. Topped with anchovies, figs, prosciutto and a lot of black pepper, the pizza has been a hot seller since owner Walter Busalacchi put in on the menu several weeks ago. The Italian-Polish chef said Wednesday he created the pizza to “laugh about what is going on in Italy.”
