A third of college students in Berlin, Germany, would consider sex work as a way to help finance their educations, according to a study done by researchers at Humboldt University. “The main motivation of students to turn to prostitution were the financial incentives, namely the high hourly wages,” Eva Blumenschein, one of the study's authors, told Reuters.
In Paris, France, 29.2 percent of students said sex work would be a possibility for them; in Kiev, Ukraine, the figure was 18.5 percent. Prostitution is legal in Berlin but not in the other two capital cities.
According to the study, about 4 percent of the 3,200 Berlin students surveyed said they had already done some form of sex work, which was defined as including prostitution, erotic dancing and Internet shows.
So we, of course, are wondering what the number would be at NYU or UCLA … but we’re not finding any comparable research. Any educated guesses out there?
