An anonymous flier was distributed in Fairview, Ill., notifying residents that Mayor Gail Mitchell had "allowed" a group of bondage enthusiasts to hold “Beat Me in St. Louis” in the Fountains at Fairview and the adjoining Four Points by Sheraton hotel. The flier's author called the conference a “porn convention on city-owned property,” and claimed Mitchell did what he could to keep it a secret.
Mitchell says he couldn't have stopped the conference if he wanted to. But he absolutely wanted to.
“You bet I would have stopped it if I could have, because I don't want that kind of stuff going on in my city,” Mitchell said. Lawmakers say the conference will be the first item on the agenda at their committee meeting. And Mitchell had the police department and city attorney look into the matter.
“We host a lot of different organizations,” Christine Orr, general manager of the hotel and conference center, said. “This was a private organization. They rented out the hotel and conference center. We had no problems whatsoever with the group.”
And there's the rub. It was a private party. No one in Fairview was the wiser until the flier circulated. And even if they had been, what difference would it make? It was a gathering of consenting adults doing things consenting adults like to do. Who cares? Really?

Holy crap!!
There is more to this story. They tried outing other people in the kink community and it ended up backfiring on them.

yes, i think bdsm is a style.
wow. nice about BDSM
Idiots...It's no more than a bunch of political mudslinging between the current mayor and a couple of aldermen who are running against him.
So what, a bunch of CONSENTING ADULTS come and sell out a hotel in a DEAD area, where half the businesses are barely getting by, and the rest have closed, as was evidenced by the abandoned restaurants, strip malls and offices all around it, and have a bit of kinky fun. All the while being so discreet that none of the locals apart from hotel staff and Law Enforcement, had, and still have, NO CLUE about the nature of the convention! And oh, by the way, SPENT PLENTY OF MONEY at the local restaurants while we were there.
The convention has already been investigated, by local Law Enforcement...they came at the invitation and with the full support of the leader to take a look around when the convention was in full swing. They found nothing wrong was going on, and that the precautions we took to insulate the community from any hint of our activities getting out were more than adequate!
I really want to attend Beat Me in St. Louis one year.
