There is a “menacing rise” in sex delinquency in the United States, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health has been “finding out what really makes a girl ‘bad’ and what we can do to prevent it.”
Okay, relax, folks. Yes, that’s a real story, but it’s from 1949.
“Sex experience among unmarried girls is probably twice as prevalent as it was 25 years ago,” Dr. Luther E. Woodward, of the National Committee for Mental Hygiene, asserts. “The high schools and colleges are full of it. It’s the Number One worry of parents of teen-agers all over the country.”
Sixty-eight percent of brides aren’t virgins! And promiscuity usually results from “spur of the moment” acquaintances with strange men … there’s no stopping it! Not in 1949, anyway ...
We bring this up primarily so SexIs readers will have a ready response next time their parents, or even grandparents, have something to say about how morality is going all to hell these days. Things haven’t changed that much.
