Remember Caleb Laieski, the 15-year-old from Arizona who started Gays and Lesbians United Against Discrimination, and took on the Arizona school system over LGBT bullying in schools?
Well, it turns out we're not the only ones who took notice. President Obama extended a personal invitation to Caleb, asking the teen to attend the White House Conference on Bullying Prevention. The teen said he was shocked at how seriously the White House was taking this situation.
“I’m coming from Arizona, and Arizona can’t even pass the anti-bullying bill through committee, so I was extremely happy to see the White House was very dedicated to this," Caleb said.
Federal Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan spoke at the conference, saying, “We need to have a fundamental cultural shift in our schools and communities. We all have an obligation to make our schools safer for all students. No school can be a good school until they are a safe school.” Here, here!
