It’s true that Amanda Knox’s family invited her former boyfriend Rafaele Sollecito to visit them in Seattle. But though he still obviously has affection for Amanda, he doesn’t know when or whether he would go.
ABC News’ Elizabeth Vargas reported on Sollecito’s first public appearance— a paid appearance on Italian television—since he and Knox were freed from an Italian prison. Knox and Sollecito were both convicted of the murder of Knox’s British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.
The couple had been going out for only a week when they were arrested, says Time magazine. Their sentences, 26 years for Knox and 25 for Sollecito, were overturned last month when an appeals trial found inconsistencies and “after genetic evidence was largely discredited.”
“I still have a great affection toward her, but nothing else,” Sollecito said of Knox on Quarto Grado (see video on the ABC News link). “We were both victims of a cruel injustice, and our relationship was overcome by this tragedy — our lives are linked by circumstances, but now they are very different.”
Of the kisses they shared outside the crime scene Sollecito said “Amanda was alone in that period. I was the only one who could comfort her and those kisses were kisses of comfort, not kisses of passion.”
