What is Wax Play?
Wax play is an activity that typically is said to be a part of BDSM. It is where you take a candle, or anything that is made out of wax, and then melt it, and place that melted wax onto your partner. Typically this is done onto bare skin, but sometimes people will have a barrier between them, such as saran wrap.

Safety
So wax play is playing with a substance that is hot, so certain precautions should be taken. First, you should have materials just in case something bad happens. So have ice, cold towels, water, and a fire-extinguisher nearby. You don’t need ice and towels and water, but you should have at least one.

Preparation
Before you get started, it can be a good idea to oil the person’s skin before wax play. This will make it easier to remove the wax when you are done playing. Wax Types
Different waxes are composed of different materials and therefore have different temperatures they melt at. What you want is the coldest burning wax. This is white paraffin wax. So your best option for wax play is to buy plain what paraffin candles. These simply work the best and are the most predictable.

Why Would You Try Wax Play?
Wax play provides some very unique sensations. First and foremost, it provides a warm sensation that can be pleasant to painful. It provides a warm tingling sensation on the skin that changes as the wax begins to harden. This experience is heightened because the wax melts slightly differently each time, so each drop is a bit of a surprise. You can add ice to this play too and it creates very unique sensations. You get hot and cold that eventually merge into a similar tingling sensation. As mentioned earlier, the experience can be pleasant and erotic to more painful and masochistic.

The experience can be largely influenced by how far you let the wax drip. The higher you let it drip, the cooler it will be. The closer you are to the person (so less of a drip), the hotter the drop will be. A good way is to test a height on yourself first and then try it on your submissive. Clean Up
Wax play can be messy. If anyone has ever spilled a candle onto something, it can be hard to get out. Rather than trying to clean up wax, the best measure is to simply never get it on anything. To do this, it is often a good idea to lay down newspaper, garbage bags, saran wrap, disposable table cloths, or some other material that can be easily thrown away with all the excess wax on it.

Getting wax off a person can be difficult. Most of the time you just need to pick if off slowly using a dull knife, your hands, or sometimes people will flog or whip it off their partner. Just be careful with the wax. It might melt a bit, but return back to a solid. So do not stick it down any drains. Your best bet is to simply throw it straight into the garbage.
