Did you hear the one about the guy who might have robbed a First American Cash Advance in Boulder, Colo.? He's 42-year-old Theodore “Teddy” Lopez and his friends call him “Big Spooky.” And it turns out his mug might just be on some surveillance footage at a porn shop.
The place is called Mile High Adult Center and Corey Pierce, an employee, called the police when he saw a newscast about the check-cashing robbery and recognized the suspect from the store's security cameras. On the tape, a man who Pierce says is Lopez smashed the store's window with a metal pole and stole ... some magazines.
Lopez's was subsequently charged with theft from Mile High. That case has gone to trial and attorneys are picking the jury. And the prosecutor's primary question was whether or not the prospect jurors could look beyond the Mile High's product offerings.
Three jurors admitted to having an issue with what the store sells. One even said, “Theft is wrong, but to protect a porn store, I would have a problem with that,” said one.
Um, what? So people who own and work in porn shops aren't really people? Got it. Presumably, jurors won't be conflicted when Lopez faces the bank robbing charges, next.
