An adult industry trade group says that a porn star who tested positive for HIV has re-tested and been found negative for the virus. The actor, whose name and personal information is being withheld for reasons of medical privacy, was in Florida and set to shoot a film for Mofo.com when the positive result came in and the shoot was stopped. The Associated Press reports that the test result caused the multi-billion dollar industry to shut down as a precaution. The industry similarly shut down last year when performer Derrick Burts tested HIV positive.
The adult industry trade group, the Free Speech Coalition, is “working on a database to track sexually transmitted disease testing among porn actors, a task formerly handled by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation before it closed in December 2010,” which closed due to inadequate licensing. The coalition says production can now resume.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has accused the coalition of obstructing a Los Angeles investigation into the case, which the FSC’s Diane Duke called “completely false and baseless.” NBC quoted Duke as saying that the foundation “has a history of spreading misinformation in order to further their agenda to force government regulation of sexual behavior.”
The foundation hopes to put the issue of mandatory condoms use in porn to a public vote in Los Angeles in June 2012.
