Jacqui Smith, former Home Secretary of Parliament, told a Parliamentary Inquiry she thinks Joe Pornviewer should have to pay a fee to be able to view adult images on the Internet. This, she says, will help revive the legal porn community and help protect children from illegally viewing or appearing in pornography. And maybe there will be a little left over for teaching kids sex education, as well. But make no mistake, she says she does not want to limit or censor pornography.
We might be okay with that. Smith acknowledged, however, that the chances of her proposals coming to fruition are “not great.”
“What I argue is that there is a quid pro quo. If there are restrictions put on to what people can see, that will have a beneficial effect on the industry. If government or ISPs put in place restrictions that does enable the mainstream industry to [recover economically], that would be the point at which you could apply pressure,” Smith told the Telegraph.
This move doesn't come as much of a surprise. Smith introduced legislation making it illegal to solicit sex for money from prostitutes who were forced into the business.
