Lots of things have begun with a drunken tweet or ten. Fast friendships, whirlwind relationships, whole Twitter campaigns. And now, a photography series that leaves a lot to the imagination. On purpose.
“That drunken tweet was the impetus,” artist Ryuko Azuma, well known for his edgy, sexy illustrations, told Kotaku. “I tweeted that a collection of photos of a girl licking a doorknob would be a big hit.”
Ai Ehara, a photographer, responded … and “Doorknob Shojo” was born. But what is it?
Well, it’s just what Azuma said. A series of photos of lovely young Asian girls dressed in various outfits chosen specifically for the reaction they get from Japanese people. Most of the doors are closed. All of the girls are kneeling.
“For me, all of the things that I like, bizarre things, cute things, girls, are influenced by what TV shows or anime I saw as a kid,” Ehara said. “All of this manifests itself into Doorknob Girl.”
