We’ve heard it said that psychology is a profession that attracts people who are a little batty themselves but we’re not sure whether Sacramento prison shrink Laurie Ann Martinez was a bit mad, very desperate or just thought she was smart enough to get away with a very damaging lie. Laurie Ann wanted to move into a safer neighborhood so badly that she allegedly staged a fake rape and robbery in order to convince her husband to do so.
She got a divorce instead, according to the Sacramento Bee..
She’s also being charged with faking the crime: “She split her own lip with a pin, scraped her knuckles with sandpaper, had her friend punch her in the face, and even wet her pants to give the appearance she had been knocked unconscious, authorities said Friday.” The friend who punched her with a boxing glove, Nicole April Snyder, is also facing conspiracy charges.
Martinez told authorities that she came home to find a stranger in her kitchen, was hit in the face and that "She lost consciousness and then when she awoke she found her pants and underwear pulled down to her ankles." Hundreds of hours were spent on the case until a co-worker told police that Martinez had talked at work about faking a crime to get her husband to move, the AP reports.
Weird how self-fulfilling prophecies work. Her neighborhood probably seems even less safe, now, at least to her neighbors … because she’s nutty as a Snickers.
