We can't decide whether this doll is disturbing or an excellent step forward. It's called The Breast Milk Baby, and it's by Berjuan Toys, a small, family-owned Christian business. And even the little girl in the demonstration video doesn't appear overly comfortable with the creepy little doll.
There are six versions of the doll, three of each gender. Each comes with a bikini-like top with flowers for nipples. And its creators are pulling out the big Scripture guns in its defense.
Dennis Lewis, spokesman for Berjuan Toys, says the purpose of The Breast Milk Baby is "to teach children the nurturing skills they’ll need to raise their own healthy babies in the future. Breastfeeding is good for babies, it’s good for mommies and it’s good for society. We really don’t understand why this has created such controversy.”
And sure! Breastfeeding is great for the baby, and the mother. Mom loses the baby weight faster. Baby has fewer allergies, and a stronger immune system. We won't dispute that. We're just not altogether sure how we feel about the doll. That's all.
