I love giving gifts. Don’t get me wrong, I love receiving gifts as well, but I really love giving gifts. During the holiday season, I get really excited about finding the perfect gift for those on my list. But what about sex toys as gifts? They can make people very happy, but is it socially acceptable? I think it really depends on who is receiving the gift and how close you are to them.
I would never give a sex toy as a gift to a family member, excluding my wife. Sex is not something we speak about as a family and that would be all sorts of uncomfortable, especially since we open gifts in front of the whole family. Would I give a sex toy as a gift to my good friends? Not really if I’m being honest. We’re as close as friends can be, but giving another guy a sex toy is just odd, and weird.
My wife would never give a sex toy as a gift to her family either, or most of her friends. But with some of her best girl friends, she’s given some naughtier gifts in the past. An erotic book has been a gift several times and I’m pretty sure she gave her best friend a small vibrator once. I’m not sure if there is a double standard between men and women when it comes to this topic, but it certainly seems easier for my wife to talk about sex with her friends and to give them sex toys as well.
The one person I really feel comfortable giving a gift of sex toys to would be my wife. In fact, this year she’s getting a naughty stocking on top of her normal Christmas Day stocking. I love buying sex toys for her. Even though she’s the one receiving pleasure, I love seeing her happy and pleased, and I really enjoy using the toys with her, so they are almost as much a gift for me as for her. But this year I am super excited about giving her the naughty stocking as I’ve taken to calling it. Seeing what she’ll enjoy and what I’ll get to enjoy as well will be fantastic.
And perhaps one day I’ll be comfortable giving sex toys to other people as gifts. I’m not sure if I ever will be comfortable with that. But I’m glad my wife is open with her friends and can share toys and other types of things. Maybe the favor will be returned at some point.
