One ringy-dingy. Two ringy-dingies. Sixty-five thousand ringy-dingies …
A Rotterdam woman is being charged with stalking after calling her ex-boyfriend 65,000 times in one year. According to Time’s Nick Carbone, “She received no answer until last week—but it wasn't the 62-year-old man that responded—it was the authorities. They arrested the woman in her Rotterdam home, finding her among several cell phones and computers she may have used to place the harassing phone calls.”
Never mind “why,” more than one device is the only thing that might explain the sad and haunting question, “How?” To call someone 65,000 times in a year you’d have to ring them up 178 times a day or every 8 minutes—and that’s not allowing for sleep.
Imagine that kind of diligence applied elsewhere—the masterpieces one could paint, the degrees one could obtain, the hungry people one could feed. But no … better to spend your time hitting redial. That must be one hunky sexagenarian she was calling. Think she’d give us his number?
