This toy just takes two AAA batteries. It's pretty simple to use. The remote has two buttons and seven settings. To turn it on, you just press the power button. When you press the power button, it automatically turns on the first setting, which is a slightly low vibration. Then it has a function button that looks like a little wave. You can press it to activate the settings. The first three are your standard levels of speed from low to high. The last four settings are all pulsing settings. The weaker settings should be good for most beginners. The strongest setting is actually fairly strong. It should be all right for most people, unless you need extremely strong vibrations.

The toy isn't very loud. It's got a slight buzzing, but it's nothing that can be heard through a closed door. A blanket would even smother the sound out quite a bit.
