Which head?
The Calypso, by California Exotics was not all that I thought it would be. It is easy to hold and it is easy to use, with a click of one button that turns it on/off and goes through the patterns. The head is made of nubbed silicone and is a bit too wide for its purpose of clitoral stimulation. Along with the weird noises it made, I don't think I would use this product again

Pros
Strong vibrations, easy to hold, easy to use
Cons
Loud noises when held a certain way, not focused on the clit
The Calypso,
by California Exotics is a clitoral stimulator that fits nicely in your hand. It has several vibration patterns with the click of a button, which is the same button that turns it on, off and flips through the patterns. It takes two AA batteries, which in my opinion were not so easily put in. The bottom of the base has a cap that holds the batteries inside the toy and I had a bit of a struggle pushing off the cap.
Once I put the batteries in and the cap was finally in place, I played with the settings. There are a few variations, high vibrating, a roller coaster effect and pulsating. I found that moving the toy a certain way, or squeezing the handle a bit, makes the noise louder or softer, and sometimes moving it like a light saber (yes, I did that) makes it buzz louder, or sounds as if you put a vibrator on a glass table.
The use of this toy is not all that it is prepped up to be. I personally did not like using this toy. It is a smaller toy, but the silicone nubs did nothing for me, nor did it really focus on the clit itself. Because it was a bit too wide to focus mainly on the clit, I didn't get the satisfaction that I thought I would. I do suggest lube because of the material, so be sure to use water based because it is made of silicone. The noise of the toy was a little distracting, and I think that the patterns seem to change when held a certain way. I also tried it on my fiancé to see if he had any effect to it. I held it to the actual head of his penis and he felt the vibrations were a little too strong for him. As for his actual head, he shaves his head and he thought it felt great for a head massage. Needless to say, this toy did serve a purpose, just not the right one.
There was no smell or taste when coming out of the plastic packaging. The body of the toy is made out of molded PU plastic and the nubbed head is silicone. The silicone head is made into lots of little nubby pieces, which provides a little bit of a drag and makes it a bit harder to clean.
Cleaning this toy would be best with anti-bacterial soap and water or a toy cleaner of your choice. Because of the plastic base, I do not recommend sterilizing it. It is non-porous, phthalates free, hypo-allergenic, food-grade material and latex free.
Overall, the patterns and vibrations were strong and I do tend to like silicone material toys. I like that it fit nicely in my hand, and because of the velvety plastic, it wasn't slipping out of my hand or hard to hold. The noises were distracting and made a loud buzzing and/or clanking noise. I disliked the shape of this toy and would have liked it better if it actually DID focus on the clit itself and not the whole area. The title of the toy was also a bit confusing. I wasn't sure if it was meant for my fiancé's "head" or if it meant the top of the toy was able to vibrate. Turning to a few reviews, I quickly found that this toy was made for the clit and I honestly was not impressed.

Follow-up commentary
6 months after original review
After the main review, I used it a few times just to basically give it another chance and still, even though the vibrations are decently strong, it didn't do much for me. So for now, it stays tucked away in it's little bag.

Thank you for viewing Dr. Laura Berman Calypso – sex toy review page!
Good review.
This toy intrigues me, as I like rather strong, rough clit toys, but the noise level is too much for me, I think.
