Pros
Rubber cote feels luxurious, handy retrieval cord, 2 sets of batteries included, phthalates-free.
Cons
Pricey for the simple design, not quiet enough to use in public discreetly.
The Rubber Cote Remote Egg by California Exotics is a pretty simple toy. It is just what its name implies; an egg that has a remote.
The feel of this toy is velvety soft, as any fan of rubber coated plastic toys can tell you. The polyurethane coat is phthalates-free and hypoallergenic. There is no weird smell to be had nor is there much of a taste. The egg and battery pack both have the rubber cote, which I found nice. The egg features a handy little cord to retrieve it with and it seems very well attached. Water-based lube is always a safe bet with toys, but being plastic and polyurethane, silicone-based lube should also be safe to use. I have not used lube with mine yet, as the size makes it pretty easy to insert and I don’t usually use lube with a clit vibe.
The egg is powered by four watch batteries while the remote is powered by a 12 volt battery. This comes with two complete sets of batteries, which I appreciate as I don’t enjoy buying watch batteries by the truck load. The remote has a battery compartment with a lid that kind of slides out a little then pops off. I have had this come off during use once, but think I didn’t have it snapped in place all the way. The egg twists apart, and at first I was concerned about the seam. Once I screwed the egg tightly shut the seam became almost invisible and I didn’t notice it during use. Just a warning about the batteries, you must take them out after each use. The reason for this is that the toy has a tendency to turn on by itself and drain the batteries in the egg. There is also the risk of corrosion, so taking batteries out of toys during storage is always recommended. The controls are incredibly simple. There is a large round push button on the remote that is used to cycle through the 3 different levels of steady vibration and back to the off position. A red led light flashes once when the button is pressed, letting you know you changed the speed.
When it comes to power, this egg is similar to other watch battery operated toys that I’ve used. While it’s not super strong it should be strong enough to satisfy most. Being a remote egg one would assume it would be extremely quiet… well it is fairly quiet but I wouldn’t use it in public. On the lowest setting it is near silent while inserted vaginally, but it can easily be heard on the medium and high settings. I’m not satisfied with a toy on low; no matter how powerful the toy is, so it wouldn’t work for covert public use for me. I do enjoy having it inserted while at home, especially while doing mundane things like paying bills or housework. I can keep the remote in my pocket and turn it on without having to pull down my pants, and the possibilities for partner play are very enticing to me.
The box warns to keep the toy away from water, though the egg has a rubber O-ring seal in it. I would suggest cleaning it with a damp cloth or using Before and After Toy Cleaner. I didn’t find anything got into the seam, but if you really want to keep stuff out and make cleaning a whole lot faster just use a condom or stretch a finger cot over it.
Please remember that eggs are not for butts. Even though this has a pretty sturdy cord, I would advise against using this toy anally. There are anal specific toys that vibrate and are safe for that use, so if that's what you're looking for I'd suggest you check out the great selection available.

Experience
Internal vibrations don’t do much for me unless they are super strong, so I use this toy mostly for clitoral stimulation. The rubber cote makes the egg easy to hold onto and the shape and size make it comfortable. The retrieval cord also makes a nice wrist strap, preventing me from losing it in the bed.
I have not had the opportunity to use this for partner play, though the thought excites me. The distance on the remote seems pretty good, as I can turn it on from a couple rooms away. I can imagine an outing to a fairly noisy place (unless you want people knowing you have a vibrating egg in your crotch) would be quite pleasurable with someone else in control of the remote. Perhaps those make out sessions at the movies would be a little more exciting with this toy implemented into the mix. The possibilities for fun with a remote egg seam nearly limitless…I only wish it were quieter.
I do really like this toy, but it lost a star for the following features: the price is higher than $35, it turns on by itself occasionally, it could be quieter, and the remote is rather cheap looking. Besides those things, this is a pretty excellent toy. This one is definitely worth a look.
