My life has suddenly become full of pink silicone objects, with the pink being a bit femme for me, but the silicone always so just right. The Epona is a little more than 4 inches of pink, body-safe silicone and a 2 inch plastic base/control switch, with a surprisingly strong vibe for a toy that is palm-sized. Packaged in an attractive black box, it would be a wonderful gift, or a great vibe if you prefer a compact, focused vibe.
The Epona is 100% medical-grade silicone, the safest, most body-friendly toy material. Its texture is very smooth and silky, with a seam I could feel with my finger but not with my labia. As with all 100% silicone products, there is no smell or taste. The silicone also ensures that the toy is both firm and flexible.
The first two inches of the silicone section of the dildo are rigid, as they house the motor, but the top two inches and curved tip offer all the squeezability and flexibility of top-quality silicone toys. The Epona has a cycle of ten speeds/patterns, run a motor the manufacture, Touche, describes as “ultra-sonic.” They advertise that this design allows the vibrations to be felt all along the toy, not just centered over the motor, and this is true; the toy delivers a consistent, vibrating buzz throughout its length, including the tip. The toy is also waterproof, so you can take your fun into the bath or shower.
I found the toy easy to hold and use. The push pad on the base is lined up with the bent tip, so you can tell by running your finger quickly over the base which way the tip is pointing. The small girth made the toy easy to hold, and the rigidity of the base and motor housing meant I could easily thrust the toy with some force, especially for its small size.
The dildo’s vibrations are turned on and off by pressing and holding a small rubber pad on the plastic base. The pad is easy to feel with your finger while the Epona is in use, which is another bonus. This pad also cycles the ten different vibration patterns; simply push the pad quickly, and the dildo will switch to its next speed or intensity. This toy pulses, vibrates, escalates, throbs, beats, and rocks. Page 63 of the user’s manual illustrates the patterns graphically, which is actually very helpful for learning about the toy. The toy can also be turned off at any point in the cycle by pushing and holding the pad. The speeds/patterns vary widely, so you’ll want to play with the toy to find your favorites, or to establish the rhythm that best works for you.
One small warning—the toy seems to pull power from the batteries even when it is turned off. It comes with batteries, which I inserted when I first used (ok, well, inserted!) the toy. I turned it off and stored it for several days before I had time to come back for exploring, to find the batteries were completely dead. This happened again with the rechargeable batteries I used as replacements. This is easy to fix by removing the batteries between uses.
The Epona’s water-proof design means it can also be easily cleaned with warm water and soap. While it cannot be boiled to sterilize, as non-vibrating silicone toys can, it can be cleaned with most toy cleaners. As always, if you are using the toy both anally and vaginally, or if you are sharing it with two or more people, you should use condoms to protect everyone’s health. As with all 100% silicone products, lube often isn’t necessary with silicone, but if you use some, make sure it is water-based to protect your toy.
One thing I did not expect to love about this toy – the User Manuals! Because Touche is based in the Netherlands and markets widely, the toy comes with two user’s manuals. One is English, French, German, and Spanish; the other is Dutch, Russian, Polish, and Italian. While my attraction to the manuals may seem geeky, I can know say Touche’s motto, “Touch your passion and enjoy!” in several languages: Restez a l’ecoute de votre desir et amusez-vous!, Conecta con tu passion y disfruta!, and Entra in contatto con la tua passione e divertiti!. I’m sure these will someday come in handy in some interesting way. And humor aside, the user manual is very well done with great information about the product and safe, healthy sexuality.
This is a very well-made, thoughtfully designed toy. I enjoyed the variety of patterns of speed and strength, and how easy the controls are to use. For me, however, the toy is too small. I like more length and more girth. The bent tip intended for g-spot stimulation is not the perfect angle for me. But toy sizes are always very personal. If you know you like toys on the smaller side, this could be a complete delight. And if you travel, or carry your toys with you for adventurous evenings, the small size may well be an asset.
Follow-up commentaryI've started to like it more10 months after original review
I've played with many other vibes since I took the Epona for a test run, and when I pulled her out of my drawer recently, I couldn't remember why I hadn't been playing with her more frequently. The stiffness of the base and bottom few inches gives a lot of support for thrusting, while the bendiness of the tip helps you hit that just-right-spot.
I still find the Epona works better as very interesting warm-up than a road to orgasm. I've never been able to memorize the vibration patterns, which is great for "please me tease me" play, but a challenge when I need a predictable, increasing pattern when I'm nearly ready to come.
But a very solid and fun toy, especially for the price. The surface and texture have held up well, and I think it's time to move her to my second - not top - but definitely a strong second - drawer.
