Too Buzzy to Rock My World

As a size queen who likes deep rumbly vibes, Janis was not for me.

But, I recognize that there are people out there who prefer buzzier vibes that aren't as deep. My suspicion is that Doc Johnson made Janis for those people so that both "rumbly" folks could have a G-Spot vibe and "buzzy" folks could have G-spot vibe.

I'm giving her 4 stars because while she might not work for me - she may work well for you! I do believe she's a good quality product.

Use

I believe Rock Star Janis is named after Janis Joplin, a talented performer who died of a heroin overdose (possibly with alcohol involved) at a young age. When I read about her life, I think about someone who had such potential but didn't live up to it.

Unfortunately, for me, that's a perfect description of Doc Johnson's Rock Star Janis. In looks it had such potential. But in reality, I found that it fell short. However, a lot of that has to do with my personal preferences in vibrators (which I will be sharing below).

With that said, just as there are fans of Janis Joplin's music, I'm sure Rock Star Janis will find many that like her.

Janis is designed for G-spot stimulation and is marketed this way. However, she can also be used for clitoral stimulation and almost anywhere on the body. Because she does not have a flared base, I do not recommend her for anal play.

Personally, I think I prefer her to be used for clitoral stimulation than G-spot. I find that she is too buzzy to do much for me if I use her internally.

Material / Texture

Janis is made of silicone that is considered "Food-grade material / Hypo-allergenic / Latex free / Non-porous / Phthalates free". I find her silicone to be very velvety and soft but it has quite a bit of drag to it. Because of this,I recommend using her with water-based lubrication. Do not use silicone-based lubes with her.

I have not noticed any odor with Janis and I didn't try to taste her.

Please note that her texture is very smooth with no bumps or ridges. If you like the stimulation from those things, you won't find them here. That doesn't mean that Janis isn't good, I just like to point that out for people to be aware of.

Janis is fairly flexible in the neck (narrow shaft) area. I can bend her to about a 30 degree angle, perhaps a bit more. However, she will not hold that new angle when I bend her.

Design / Shape / Size

In theory, I like the design of Janis because I prefer G-spot vibrators. She has a bulb at the top with a fairly narrow neck underneath and then she gets larger near her base. Her neck is bendable so that you can insert her and try to hit the G-spot.

However, I prefer Doc Johnson's Rock Star Stevie for G-spot vibrations because he has more of a knob-shaped head with a wider neck going down to the base. I will share more details later on.

It's hard to say if Janis is discreet or not. Before I started playing with vibrators, I would not have recognized her as one. However, now I can look at the design of a Febreeze can in the store and go "wow - shaped like a G-spot vibrator at the neck area". Yeah - I'm bad.

If I was going to travel with her, I'd still toss her in my overnight bag and just not worry about what anyone would say. I'm sure that the airport screeners have seen worse, and if not, then they can use the education!

Functions / Performance / Controls

While her vibrations are buzzy, I will say that they are sort of strong when you hold her in your hand for a bit. Most buzzy vibrators will make my hand start to tingle and that did not happen. However, the vibrations didn't go up my arm like most deeper vibrations do.

Her vibrations are centered in her bulb-head but can also be felt about an inch down the shaft below the head. I would say that gives you about 2.5" of length where you are feeling the vibrations the most. You can feel them down the rest of the shaft, just not as much.

Her controls are very easy to use. First of all, to insert batteries you unscrew the base and put in the 2 AAA batteries. Then screw the base back in and turn the dial at the bottom of the knob-shaped handle at the bottom of the base. There are no specific settings and no patterns - simply low speed and then going upward till you reach the fastest vibrations. When she's on full speed and not under covers, I give her 3 bees for sound. Otherwise, I find her to be closer to 2 bees.

Care and Maintenance

Because she is made of silicone and plastic, she is very easy to clean and only needs to be wiped down with your favorite toy cleaner or with soap and water. She has a plastic base while the insertable portion is silicone.

Although she is considered waterproof, do NOT boil Janis or put her in the dishwasher as you will ruin the motor.

I do find that she picks up lint and dust so you would want to store her in a sock, a toy bag or something, or just wipe her down before every use as well as after use. You will want to make sure that she is not stored where she can touch other silicone toys.

Personal comments

There are other differences between the two toys and I'd like to share them here to give you a better feeling for why Doc Johnson has created two different G-spot vibrators.

First of all, while both bend at the neck area, Stevie almost feels a bit more flexible even though he has a wider neck.

Both have the vibrations mainly located in the head, but Stevie's vibrations are more pronounced there and are not felt as well along the neck. Janis' vibrations, however, can be felt not only in the head but about an inch down the neck. In fact, they almost feel stronger in the neck than in the bulb shaped head.

Stevie's vibrations are deeper and more rumbly than Janis and as a size queen I have a harder time feeling her vibrations when she is inserted.

In addition, Stevie's "knob" is almost 2" long from top to bottom and 1.5" across. At the widest point of his shaft, which is just above the metal band, I found him to have a 4.5" circumference. Janis' head is 4" in circumference and about 1.5" long. The narrowest part of her shaft/neck is 3" in circumference and about 1" long before widening out.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Stevie is more of a "pinpoint" vibrator that gives deeper vibrations and Janis is a buzzier vibrator that has a larger area of effect.

This one looked promising. I'm sad to hear it's buzzy and not that strong. I have Stevie on order. I'm glad I picked that one out of these two.

I am hoping to do a video for my new personal store and show all three of these and do a comparison. I think it will be interesting....at least I hope it will be.

I think that's a great idea. I'd love to see one. I debated between the two for a while (Tina is too textured for me).

For those reading this and wondering about Tina - she reminds me a lot of the "French Kiss" by Evolved Novelties but she is not as girthy as the French Kiss is. I like her more for clitoral stimulation (and I usually only like bullets for that) than for internal stimulation.

Thanks for the review! I was actually debating between which Rock Star vibrator to get, so knowing that Stevie (which I was already leaning towards) is your preferred one of these (and rumbly vibrations!) helps a lot!
