The Alien Probe
The Velvet-Cote Pleasure Doppler looks just a little like an alien probe, with its over-sized head and narrow shaft. Its shape makes it function best for shallow penetration, as a G-spot vibrator or for clitoral stimulation.

Pros
The head is tilted for good G-spot stimulation; the lower half of the vibrator makes a good handle.
Cons
Difficult to fuck with; quality issues.
California Exotics’ Velvet-Cote Pleasure Doppler looks, appropriately, a little like something out of a science fiction movie. A very wide oblong head attaches to a much narrower shaft, with a silver plastic ring separating the two. It’s an interesting design for a G-Spot vibrator, as the head can easily be pressed against the G-Spot without a large shaft getting in the way.
The Pleasure Doppler is billed as being waterproof. There is a small rubber gasket to seal the toy shut when the battery compartment is in place; when this gasket is on the toy, the battery compartment doesn’t actually screw in far enough for the vibrator to work. I had to remove it to get the Doppler to turn on, thus rendering it no longer waterproof. While this vibrator is marketed as multispeed, it takes two triple-A batteries, and turning the dial up and down doesn’t seem to make much of a difference in strength, volume or rhythm of the vibrations. The vibrations are strong enough for very sensitive users, though they may be too weak for some.
The Pleasure Doppler vibe is made of plastic and has a coating designed to make it feel soft to the touch. This coating gives the Doppler more drag; it is not as slick as plain plastic. Its oblong head is made from two pieces which have been glued together, so as to hold in the vibrating mechanism; the seal has tiny gaps in it, which could potentially harbor water, bacteria, and other things.
With a circumference of 1 3/8”, this vibrator is not overly large, though the head is certainly filling. Despite its less than intimidating size, I found the shape difficult to “fuck” with – the lower half of the vibrator functioned far more effectively as a handle than as part of the actual vibrator. In addition, the tilted shape made deeper penetration uncomfortable.
For shallow penetration and G-spot stimulation, however, this vibrator goes a good job. Its large head, coupled with the fact that plastic has no give, makes it unnecessary to fiddle around and try to push a tiny curved head just right against one’s G-spot. It’s practically fool proof, though the vibrations were a little too weak for me.
For clitoral use, the Doppler vibe is also useful; the vibrations are somewhat diffuse, though the oversized head provides good friction when rubbing. Here, the lower half of the vibrator again functions nicely as a handle; using the Doppler on my clitoris was much easier on my wrist than using a straight vibrator.
