Starlet Let Me Down

The Starlet let me down, and for some reason it's a LOT louder than my other Toyfriend. This toy is not worth the high price for me, and it's waterproof capabilities and 5 settings just don't make up for it. Unless you don't mind the noise and buzzy vibrations and you're looking for something that's good at both broad and pinpoint clitoral stimulation, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Use

The Starlet by Toyfriend is a pretty, pink vibrator. It's one of their larger ones, but it's still not their largest. It's part of their third series of vibrators, so you figure that Toyfriend would have a better idea of what they were aiming for with this one.

When I got the Starlet in the mail I was counting on it being a fairly versatile toy. The main problem is that pretty much the only think that it excels at is external stimulation. The tip is made so that you can either use the pointy bit for very direct clitoral stimulation or you can use the broader end for more indirect clitoral stimulation.

While you CAN use this toy vaginally, the 'neck' is super firm and the perfect size to catch on my pubic bone SUPER painfully. This isn't something that most women are into, so I wouldn't really suggest it for internal use. If you can stand that bit, it is an okay shape for g-spotting.

I also wouldn't recommend this for anal use unless you were just inserting the very tip up to the neck. The Starlet has no flared base, no retrieval cord, and no real handle. Because of that it's really not anal safe, and I would personally take a look at some of the vibrators with flared bases that Eden offers.

Because of the shape this really isn't the best choice for a all-over body massager. It's not wide enough that you could cover a lot of space, and it's not quite powerful enough that you could get a very deep massage. If you just wanted something for your wrists or feet this would be okay, but otherwise look elsewhere.

If you're looking for a first toy to introduce as a couple, the Starlet would be an okay choice. It's pretty loud, but it is long enough that you could easily use it during intercourse. I usually recommend something more versatile for your first vibrator as a couple, but this is a great material and not intimidating.

As your first toy overall, I would certainly recommend something more versatile. This is also fairly loud and doesn't have much variation in the power levels, so I would recommend looking elsewhere, especially for the steep price tag.

This toy really doesn't pass my dorm seal of approval. It's way too loud for me to use in the public showers, and I worry about it being heard through the thin dorm walls. It is waterproof and easy to care for, but it's better for those who have a more private space to play in.

Material / Texture

This toy is made entirely out of silicone, which is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. This is because it's nonporous and body safe, meaning that bacteria can't thrive beneath the cleanable surface and that it isn't going to release any gross chemicals into your body while you're using it.

Silicone is often a lint magnet, but this toy isn't too bad when it comes down to it. It does tend to grab onto hairs a bit, but if you keep it in a lint-free environment you could get away with just washing this after every use. Because this has a motor it can't be boiled, but you can wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution, and it should be every time you switch partners or orifices to prevent the spread of infection.

The silicone is entirely smooth on the Starlet sans a small seam where the battery compartment attaches, the button on the base, and some very lightly imprinted lettering ("Tickler") on the side of the shaft. I haven't been able to insert this far enough to see if I could feel the wording, but I don't think that I could if I did.

The silicone that the Starlet is made of is MUCH firmer than most other silicones I've ever tried. It has almost no flex to it at all, even in the thin neck area that looks like it should. Just to give you an idea and comparison, this toy is much firmer after the head than the Lelo Ella.

Overall, I think that all users can appreciate how safe and easy to use silicone is. It's great that you can disinfect it, and it's very smooth. If it were a bit softer this would be a much better toy for insertion, but as it is it's great if you are planning on putting a lot of pressure on the head of the toy.

Design / Shape / Size

Design wise, this toy is fairly large. The general shape is that it has a rounded, flat head that looks similar to the Lelo Ella, that then tucks into a thinner neck area. This then flares out again to the long, straight shaft of the toy.

The entirety of the toy is 6 inches long, with just a bit over 5 inches being 'insertable.' From the tip to the end of the neck it's just under 3 inches, and the head itself is about an inch long. If you do like inserting this toy all the way, you can for sure get some good length out of the shaft for thrusting with.

As far as width goes, the shaft and the widest part of the head are about 4 inches around. This is fairly 'average' in width for toys, but the material is very firm so it might feel a bit thicker than some softer silicone toys. The neck at the thinnest part is a bit under 2 inches wide, so it is a lot thinner than the rest of the toy.

The design combined with the firmness of the silicone together make this something that I really can't use for thrusting. The curve and angle make this act like a hook that wraps around my pubic bone and is super painful, and I'm not one who often has pubic bone problems.

The design of the tip really is versatile for different typed of clitoral stimulation, however. The pointy tip is great for direct g-spot stimulation if that's what floats your boat. It's also an ideal shape to use the broader area for more distributed vibrations. I personally like this use better, but it all depends on what works better for you.

The design would also make it nice to use between two people during intercourse. The long shaft and vibrating tip are both things that would make this a great couples toy. While I still don't recommend this overall because of the price and lack of versatility, it's still something that I wouldn't dissuade using for that purpose.

If you're a size queen or someone who really likes length this might be a bit short for you, and it still might prove to be uncomfortable when thrusting. I also feel like beginners might be happier with something more versatile, especially if they're looking to spend $50 on a silicone vibrator.

Overall, this design just falls short. I wish that I could say more kind things about it, but I was so bummed out when I tried this toy out that I just can't really recommend it to someone unless it's exactly what you've been looking for.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Performance wise, this toy does okay. I have the Bubbly Toyfriend (as well as one of the mini Toyfriends) and I have to say that the Bubbly is just as powerful but much less loud. I am unsure if it's because the Starlet is made of firmer materials or what, but I personally would go with one from the former line of Toyfriends.

The Starlet is controlled by a push button on the base. The button is pretty easy to push, but especially because this really isn't a thrusting toy I haven't had any issues with bumping it on accident. It has a power sign on it, as you saw above, and has just as much drag as the rest of the material.

You hit the button once to turn it on, and then you can keep pressing it until you get to the setting that you're fond of. One you cycle through it goes back to the first setting. You can turn it off on any setting by holding the power button down for a few seconds, and then when you turn it on it goes back to the first setting. The settings are as follows:

1- Low
2- High
3- bbbbzzzZZZZ bbbzzzzZZZ
4- bbzzZZ bbzzZZ
5- bbZZ bbZZ

If you're looking to try out a toy with some patterns... There are better ways to do it. The price point really doesn't make it a good investment unless it just looks perfect to you.

The vibrations are about 3 vrooms in strength. They're going to be enough to get most women off, but if you have a clit of steel this is not the one for you. The vibrations are also fairly buzzy, which is not my preference when it comes to external toys.

Noise wise, this toy is much louder than my other Toyfriend. It can be heard over the public dorm showers where I play, and it is possible to hear it though a thin wall or door if it's quiet. While it's not going to really irritate most users, it is still quite a turn off.

Overall, this really is lacking for a toy at this price point. The power will be enough for most people, but it's not got the most variety of toys at this price range and I really wish it was less loud. The power would be okay for beginners, but it's still not even in my top 40 to suggest.
    • Easy to use
    • Multiple settings
    • Not very discreet

Care and Maintenance

One good thing about this Toyfriend is that at least it's easy to care for. The silicone isn't much of a lint magnet unlike some other toys of the same material, and if you keep it in a clean environment you can get away with only washing it after every use.

I wash this toy with an antibacterial toy cleaner, but you also can use soap and water or a toy wipe. If you plan to switch partners or orifices you also can wipe this own with a 10% bleach solution to disinfect it. This is an important step to do when you switch users or orifices because it prevents the potential spread of infection.

I keep this in a cool, dark place with the rest of my toys. You should keep it out of direct sunlight, as well. Overall, this toy is easy to care for and safe to share, if you can find anyone else who would want to use it.

You also shouldn't store this toy in contact with other silicone toys because they could potentially react together and leave you with a sticky mess. For similar reasons, you should stick to lubes that aren't silicone based when you play with this toy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The Starlet comes in a typical Toyfriend box that is made of cardboard. There is a very large window in the front where you can see the toy, so it's not the most discreet packaging. On the side it also reads "I vibrate!" and on the back is a synopsis of the toy and it's features.

While it's not lewd and it doesn't have any naked women on it, the box also doesn't really scream 'quality' at me. It does feel a little bit flimsy, and it would be easy to accidentally smush. It would be an okay choice to wrap up and give as a gift.

I personally wouldn't use this box for storage... Unless you feel like I do and don't want to see this again until you find someone else to sell it to. If you use this often at all the box will just be hard to open and take up a lot of space, so I'd recommend getting a toy pouch or something similar for this one.

Experience

I had been eying the Starlet for a while, so when it went on clearance sale I just had to jump on the chance to snag it. I am very glad that I didn't pay full price for this toy or I would have been very upset. I was hoping that it would be a great toy for thrusting and subtle g-spotting, but what I got was just okay for clitoral play.

I try and go into every review pretending that I just shelled out the price tag for it, and with this I would have returned it. I would personally go for another Toyfriend, of just another line of toys altogether. In the same price range I would totally suggest either the Bubbly Toyfriend, the Harmonia, or the Sinfonia by Close2You. All three are silicone, but are more quiet and at least as powerful.

I am giving this toy 3 stars because of the good material, 5 settings, and waterproof abilities. It also gets props for being good at pinpoint and broad clitoral stimulation, but not $50 worth of props.
