Snuggle (i.e. Sharp-and-Prickly) Puss

The Snugglepuss is not a toy I'd rush through dinner to play with. This "one size fits all" design isn't compatible with all body types, and I was one of the unlucky. My high hopes were shattered, as was my ability to orgasm. Wouldn't recommend it.

Use

The Snugglepuss by Vibratex is a good design - in theory. The suggested use is to insert the large end in your vagina and lay the winged structure against clitoris. (Please keep reading to hear more about these components!) Some sex toys rely on homogenizing anatomical structures, but U-shaped dual-stimulators can't possibly be designed to suit the needs of every body shape. I found the Snugglepuss to lie against my body in an uncomfortable way, stimulating all the wrong areas.

Buuut, feeling particularly liberated, I decided to use this toy unconventionally and have it function as an external stimulator (my nipples, his nipples, my clitoris, his scrotum, etc.) Because of this, the Snugglepuss (for me) was not rendered useless, but I think it's important to acknowledge that it didn't work as described.

Material / Texture

As soon as I took the Snugglepuss out from its container, I gave it a good whiff. No obvious or off-putting odor, just a slight silicone smell. I left it lying on some blotting paper overnight, to see if any residue oils would run off, and the next morning I was glad to not be greeted by an oil-stain. I also found that the slight scent dissipated over time. The Snugglepuss is made of a hard plastic spine (for structure) covered with medical-grade silicone (giving it a score of 10 in material safety). There was a slight drag when I ran my fingers across the surface, as can be expected with silicone toys. The knob-ed end is 1 1/2 inches in diameter and can be inserted approximately 3 1/4 inches deep and is designed for G-spot stimulation. It is textured with small silicone nipples 1.5 millimeters in diameter and 2-3 millimeters high. The nipples were soft to the touch and gave fairly easily when bent to the side. The winged end is not designed for insertion and is used to spread the labia apart while stimulating the clitoris. The surface in contact with the clitoris is also nippled, with the same dimensions as the G-spot knob.

Personally, I didn't enjoy the texture of the Snugglepuss. I found the knobby end painful to insert, and even more painful to remove. The diameter of the knob wasn't significant, so I know that it wasn't a factor in my discomfort. The nipples felt like a bed of nails, and even with ample lubrication, I still bit my lip as I gently eased it in. I did find the clitoral texture to be pleasurable, and especially enjoyed the winged feature. When having my clitoris stimulated, I like to gently spread my labia to maximize clitoral exposure, and this toy did it for me!

Underneath the silicone, a hard, brittle plastic forms the battery compartment and gives firmness to the articulating arm. The package said to not bend the arm back, so I saw a challenge and gently bent it backwards to test its durability. I heard a small crack. It worked fine after, but I am sure something cracked inside. The plastic interior frame was quite brittle and white at the seams, indicating low-quality.

Design / Shape / Size

The Vibratex Snugglepus did not fit my body. I had always hoped that a dual-stimulation, U-shaped vibrator would fit me, as I think they're brilliant. Turns out they're brilliant only in theory. I stood, squatted, lay down, held my legs over my head, and sat down with this toy inside of me. Nothing would help it lay properly. The clitoral wing-flap kept riding up, ultimately massaging the tissue over my pubic bone. It felt nice, but not as nice as it would have felt on my clitoris.

With that being said, even if this not-so-snuggly Puss works wonders with your curves and crannies, it would not be an ideal travel buddy because of its inability to turn off. Short of removing the batteries (which is a supreme pain in the ass), this toy will activate if bumped, dropped, squished, or pulled apart. Separating the arms isn't the only way to turn on this toy (as indicated on the packaging) and I found out the hard way. I placed the Snugglepuss in a crowded box and even pressing UP on the clitoral vibration arm (ie, from the base of the "U" to the top of the wings) turned it on. Storing this toy incorrectly could render a severe battery drain, and who really wants to go out and buy three watch batteries (Hello...EXPENSIVE?) every time? Not me!

Functions / Performance / Controls

Vibratex seems to boast the Snugglepuss for being very intuitive and user-friendly (in the sense that it doesn't host any complicated buttons, knobs, switches, or dials), but for its simplicity, I feel like the toy designers sacrificed quality. This toy is single speed, and begins vibrating the moment the arms of the "U" are pulled away from each-other. By separating the arms an inch (or more) apart will turn it on and send it vibrating. This made it difficult to access the battery case, as separation of the arms (when trying to remove the silicone "wings") would send it buzzing and make the removal of the silicone sleeve unnecessarily challenging. To make battery access even more challenging, the instructions on the packaging weren't very helpful. It took me a cup of coffee and a thoughtful ten minutes of pushing and prodding to figure it out.

There are two small motors, one located in each of the arm tips. The one designed to stimulate the G-spot lies under the nipple covered "knob," and the one designed to stimulate the clitoris lies under the silicone sleeve with nipples and "wings" to spread apart the labia. The batteries are located adjacent to the clitoral vibrator, and the winged silicone sleeve is removable to facilitate battery access. I found both vibrators to be of equal intensity, and this was not always ideal in my situation. Sometimes I wanted the clitoral vibration to back-off, while maintaining a steady G sensation, and vice versa. A minor nuisance, but something I was willing to look past.

Care and Maintenance

Despite being covered in nipples, the toy was surprisingly easy to clean. A spray with toy cleaner and a wipe down with antibacterial soap and warm water did the trick. The silicone sleeve stays put, and overlaps the other silicone portion, so I felt that it would be fairly water-resistant. Just don't submerge or overdo water contact, as the package says nothing about it being safe around copious amounts of liquid.

As the toy is made of silicone, any water-based lube is appropriate.

I store this toy in its original clear, plastic packaging (which didn't have to be cut or ripped to open). This is the only way I can be sure it won't get bumped and turn on.

Packaging

The toy came in a clear, plastic casing that opened without having to be torn or cut. On the front of the container it described the features: Wireless pleasure, dual-point action, perfectly-placed ticklers, flexible ergonomic design, etc. Not all things I would agree with, but I understand that they're trying to sell a product. The back of the packaging is edge-to-edge instructions on how to access the battery compartment. And yet I still had difficulty getting in!

I use the packaging for storage, as I really don't trust it to be lying around for fear that it will spontaneously turn on. This is unfortunate because I find the packaging to be large and fairly unattractive.

Personal comments

As we can't control the vibration, at times I found the intensity to be inconveniently strong (during and just after insertion) and disappointingly weak (when nearing orgasm). To control this, I placed a finger or two underneath the winged flap, so that I could lever it closer to (or away from) my clitoris. This helped to give me some degree of intensity control.

This toy is fairly discreet, as there aren't too many U-shaped, dual-stimulators on the market. Someone severely inexperienced may even mistake it for some sort of artistic infant teething ring. (I shudder at that thought!)

Follow-up commentary
Since my original review, not once have I felt inclined to reach for it in the heat of the moment. (I've pulled it out to show curious and amused friends - but it hasn't been used for its intended purpose.) Here it sits in my closet, in its original packaging... looking blah and uncomfortable. I've considered using it for simple external stimulation, but really... we all have much better tools that were designed for that purpose. The idea of having to hold it there, contorting your fingers to pry apart the arms in order to activate the single-speed vibration wasn't - and still isn't - appealing.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this - I was definitely excited about its potential. I hope this review put some of the hype to rest!
