I requested this toy because I have experience with Stim and BDSM ECT and thought this toy was interesting. I questioned if it would be a good Gateway into stim... my answer is sort of. It is a great toy and, in a light setting, creates interesting contractions that stimulate you in very interesting ways and can cause a very strong reaction. But you must beware, turning it up too high before you are ready.

I do wish there were more levels in between the big three.

Does it shock? Yes, if used incorrectly. Don't try to test high settings with your fingers and get scared. Just like with vibrations, your body will adapt, so take it slow.

If you have tried a stim toy like the neon want etc, this would be a good toy to add to the collection, but note it's less static.
If using with a partner, make sure you express to them that they are not to push the stim button without your permission.
