The downfall of this toy is the material it’s made of. The Spellbound is made of PVC, or polyvinyl chloride. Certain formulations of PVC can leach chemicals, and some people can be very sensitive to PVC itself, and the chemicals it can leach. PVC receives a safety rating of 2 here on Eden because of its porous nature and inability to be sanitized.

Although the design of this toy does slightly resemble an actual penis, therefore not exactly being discreet, it’s small enough and quiet enough that I would still call it a fairly discreet toy. It can be easily hidden, would pack easily into an overnight bag for travel, and won’t get scratched or damaged if you stuff it in a drawer or bag with other items. Remember to take the batteries out for storage or travel, since the twist dial controller does not lock into place.

The Spellbound runs on 2 AA batteries, and is controlled by a twist dial at the bottom. This gives you a wide range of settings so you can really personalize the vibrations.

It has one motor that sits right in the middle of the shaft, with no separate motor in the clitoral arm. While the vibrations can be felt up and down the entire shaft, they are not nearly as strong in the clitoral arm. If you need strong clitoral stimulation, this toy probably will not work for you. If you happen to have a fairly sensitive clit though, you just might find the clit arm very comfortable and quite sufficient.

I’m really impressed with the power this small, inexpensive toy can deliver! It has a good range of power and should have a speed to cater to all users. For purposes of comparison, I will use the Je Joue MiMi, and while the speed on this toy definitely compares to the speed on the MiMi, the Spellbound is just a bit buzzier than the MiMi. The vibrations of the Spellbound do disperse a little when pressure is applied to it.

Twist dial controls have their pros and cons. The controller on this toy is extremely convenient and easy to use, even when the toy is in use. It is, however, very easy to accidentally twist it and change the speed when you don’t want to, and it’s nearly impossible to remember in which direction to twist it to turn it up or down. I inevitably turned it up when I wanted to turn it down, and turned it down when I wanted to turn it up. It’s simple to just turn it in the other direction though.

This is a pretty quiet toy. It can be heard in the same room (even under a blanket) but cannot be heard through a closed door.

The Spellbound is completely waterproof, just as it claims. The vibrations are not diminished when the toy is submerged.

The Spellbound really is a breeze to take care of! Just wash it with soap and warm water before and after use. Be sure to use a condom with it since PVC is porous, which will not only protect you and your toy, but will also make clean up that much easier!

It doesn’t collect any lint or dust, so it doesn’t require any special storage instructions. I keep mine in an old tube sock, and it works great! Be sure not to let this touch your other toys when in storage. Toys that are made of compounds (or mixtures of chemicals and materials) do have a tendency to “melt” or breakdown over time. Storing this safely away from the rest of your collection will protect your Spellbound and the rest of your collection. Be sure to remove the batteries during storage so they won’t corrode inside your toy.

PVC is compatible with both water and silicone-based lubes, but remember that if you use a condom with this toy, you will need to make sure your lube is compatible with your condom material.

This toy was one of my go-to toys before I really got into sex toys. It never worked perfectly with my anatomy though. And while I have since graduated to nicer, more luxurious toys that do work with my anatomy, this toy could still make a decent warm up toy for me because of the power it packs. I choose not to use it anymore because of the material it’s made of, but that is personal choice that each user should make for themselves.
