As a cap for the Hitachi, this performs well during use and is silicone, which I love; but I've experienced a better cap for the Hitachi. And I've had considerable difficulties putting on and removing the Pleasure Dome. I like it, but I wish it had been better. If I hadn't had these difficulties, I probably would have rated it five stars.
This is a vibrator sleeve for the queen of vibrators, the Hitachi Magic Wand. It's a simple idea, but when applied to the Hitachi, the results can be complex. As the tennis-ball-sized head of the Hitachi is not made of a material that you want to soak with bodily fluids, it needs protection if you're going to press it up against areas that produce these fluids. The Pleasure Dome provides this protection with its easy-to-clean silicone surface. Simply use the Hitachi with the Pleasure Dome on, then remove the Pleasure Dome and clean it properly.
Also, since the Hitachi is such a strong vibrator that its unshielded strength can be unbearable, the Pleasure Dome provides a shielding effect to help dampen down the vibrations and make them bearable. It works better than makeshift solutions such as using layers of towels because the Pleasure Dome goes wherever the Hitachi goes, so you can easily re-position without doing a bunch of extra work.
The Pleasure Dome is particularly handy for pleasuring yourself during sex. If you are in a position where it is possible to get the large head of the Hitachi down next to your clit, the Pleasure Dome becomes a very convenient way to shield the Hitachi's head, far better than any makeshift solutions I've tried.
The material, I think, would have worked just as well with or without the bumps. The bumps did not add anything for me, particularly since this was a toy that I usually just held in one place or rocked back and forth slightly. If I had moved it around a lot, maybe I would have felt the bumps more. As it was, I was completely indifferent to them.
The bumps did make it slightly harder to clean than a smooth cap would have been.
In person, the embedded glitter was a lot more noticeable than it was in the pictures. I was surprised to get such a glittery toy. I guess it's the sort of glitter that doesn't show up well on camera. It looks like a glittery raspberry to me.
I both liked and did not like the design. I liked it in every way except for one problem I had, which is getting the Pleasure Dome on and off of the Hitachi. I found it to be a tight fit, and I found that the opening on the Pleasure Dome was small enough that I had to stretch it considerably to get it to go on. Over time this created stress fractures around the opening. I think that if the opening had been just slightly larger, I wouldn't have had this problem.
It is also, perhaps, partially my own fault. I tried to be careful when putting it on and removing it, but I am not always patient or well-coordinated when I'm horny, and perhaps I was too rough with it a few times.
An additional way it might be my own fault is that when I first got the Pleasure Dome, I noticed some small pits and a few not-entirely-filled-out bumps that were obviously manufacturer defects. I should have returned the Pleasure Dome immediately for a replacement product, but I did not. These small defects are exactly where the stress fractures started, so perhaps the tears never would have started if I'd been smart and exchanged my toy for a perfect one.
The Pleasure Dome doesn't look at all like a sex toy, so it would probably be easy to travel discreetly with it. The Hitachi doesn't look like a sex toy either, so the combination of them shouldn't look bad.
I found it inconvenient to put on and to remove the Pleasure Dome from the Hitachi. Either there is a trick to the process that I don't know, or it is slightly too small.
During use, it is a great item and does exactly what it is supposed to do (protect the Hitachi head from moisture and protect you from the Hitachi's overwhelming vibrations).
The Pleasure Dome itself is not noisy at all; but, of course, the Hitachi is. And since I can't imagine using the Pleasure Dome without the Hitachi, I believe you'll always be producing quite a bit of noise.
Except for getting it on and off the Hitachi, I found its care very easy. It is silicone; and like all silicone toys, it is easy to clean with soap and water (or to sterilize by boiling, though I never tried that).
I never used anything other than water-based lube on it (the only type of lube you should use on silicone).
Like all my other silicone toys, it is a lint magnet; so if you leave it out, it might collect a lot of lint that (for my own comfort) I wash away with water before using. Keeping the toy in its own bag or case prevents most of the lint buildup (it does not come with a bag, and its case is on the flimsy side but served me well for storage for a while). Keeping it separate is also a good idea if you have any other silicone toys since silicone toys that touch each other can react or partially melt together.
I would also suggest storing it in such a way that it can keep its shape. Don't put heavy things on top that squash it, or you might end up with a Pleasure Dome that is bent out of shape (it does spring back to its original shape easily, but I still imagine that some problem would result if you stored it in a deformed way for long enough).
The single insert is not very instructional, and the package it comes in is just see-through plastic. It looks flimsy, but I found the package lasted longer than I thought it would when I used it to store the toy. I had a drawer to store it in as well, so the see-through nature of the package was not an issue for me personally.
Mine eventually tore practically in half, but I liked it enough that I kept using it until I literally could not use it any more, and then I threw it away. I have not bought another Pleasure Dome, but if I had extra money laying around I might. However, I would be more likely to buy a similar Hitachi cap rather than this exact design.
Right now, I have two other Hitachi caps, but both are the kind with dildos attached, so I can't use them during partner play the same way I could use the Pleasure Dome (as the dildo gets in the way). I need a Pleasure Dome replacement.
Except for my frustration about getting it on and off, the Pleasure Dome was great until it tore too much for me to use.
Follow-up commentaryI still don't like it1 month after original review
Since I threw out the item before I wrote the review, there is no real follow-up on it.
However, after thinking about the issue more and getting review feedback, I am thinking that the next time I buy a cap for my Hitachi it will be a cap other than this one.
I had been previously thinking about re-buying this same item but now I do not think so.
