Kiss of death

Had the Cupid Kiss been my first vibrator, I would not be the same vivacious toy-happy girl pumping out reviews here today. It's difficult to be objective when faced with a poor quality, weak, buzzy and downright dejected vibrator such as this one.

Use

The Cupid series vibrators are made by Shaki toys. They are traditional style vibrators, each having its own specific type of texture.

If my research serves me well, in Ancient Greece, Hero's secret lover drowned en route to see her. When she discovered the body washed up on shore, Hero jumped to her death in the sea. Assuming this is where the wave-like textures stem from, the name "Kiss of Hero" is appropriate enough.

The Kiss can be used both internally and externally. Use it to stimulate the clitoris, penis, balls, nipples, or anywhere you might enjoy feeling its vibrations. The main use and design is for vaginal insertion. You could use it anally but as there is no flared based, a very firm grip must be maintained in order to keep it from slipping in.

It is marketed as a G-spot stimulator and has a curved tip to accomplish such a feat. The texture is abundant and can feel kind of intrusive. This would not be the place to start experimenting with texture. Unless you already know you can appreciate these textures, this won't be the best toy for you.

Material / Texture

Eden lists the Cupid Kiss as being made of TPR silicone, a rubber material which contains silicone. Shaki toys has labelled the Kiss as being "100% Silicone". This was extremely disheartening but I must trust Eden's judgment based on another reviewer's flame test. TPR silicone is a porous material that rates at a 6 on Eden's safety scale. It could be worse but cause for concern remains.

I had a very hard time believing this was silicone to begin with. The material has a sticky quality which causes a lot of drag. Lubricant is a must. Additionally, creases and dents in the material are permanent. Not only is this aesthetically displeasing, but this creates new places for bacteria to hang out and propagate.

The lint hoarding TPR silicone will surely require a quick wash before each use.

There is a light smell that is somewhat reminiscent of plastic shopping bags. It is not offensive but it is there if you stick your nose up to it.

The palpable texture on the Kiss is not to be taken lightly. Fans of texture rejoice, but beginners beware. There are 8 wave-like ridges which progressively get larger towards the base. These ridges are prominent on the top side of the shaft. They gather in small contiguous ridges near the base on the underside. The G-spot curved tip is slight yet tangible. The material is a little squishy, with a bit of give at the very tip. The added texture and lack of softness makes this already girthy toy feel that much larger.

Design / Shape / Size

The Cupid series vibrators are traditional shaped vibrators with a fun textured flair. They have a screw-cap base where 2 AA batteries are inserted. Once the cap is removed, "+" and "-" symbols indicate the direction in which the batteries should be inserted. The cap is white plastic coated with a very thin layer of TPR. There are 8 vertical squiggle lines around the cap that offer some grip for lubed up hands.

The design is fun and girly but lacks in quality. Where the TPR meets the plastic, the glue is exposed. Though it is firmly secured, the material appears to be lifting off. This does not distract from use at all but is somewhat unattractive.

The Kiss is 7 3/4" long, 6" of which are insertable. The circumference around the tip is 4" and gradually increases up to 5 1/2" at the base. The size and shape are not discreet. Traveling isn't ideal either since batteries come into play and the need for a pouch that wasn't included.

This is in itself a generously sized toy but the rough and unforgiving material make it feel even larger than it is. Unless you are a size queen, I fear it may be uncomfortable and even painful for insertion.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Operating the Kiss is simple with its single push button control at the end of the base. Pushing it once will turn it on. Then cycle through the speeds and patterns with each consecutive press of the button. The Kiss can be turned off either by cycling through all the functions until the end is reached or by pressing and holding down the button for several seconds. When holding down the button, you will be brought to the next function before it shuts off.

There are 4 steady vibration speeds and 4 patterns.

1. low steady vibration
2. medium steady vibration
3. high steady vibration
4. escalating quick pulses (the only one I actually enjoyed)
5. pulsing
6. fast pulsing
7. highest steady vibration
8. cycling functions 1 through 7

Notice that functions 1,2,3 and 7 are steady speeds. Whereas functions 4,5,6 and 8 are patterns.

The vibrations are concentrated at the tip and get weaker down the shaft towards the base. The localized vibrations will allow you to direct stimulation to a specific area without worrying about your hand going numb. I find the Kiss to be rather buzzy. While it isn't the weakest vibe out there, it is not a powerhouse by any means.

This toy is quite loud, especially on its higher settings. Once the third speed is reached, it begins to border vociferous territory. The noise can be muffled slightly when it's inserted but not nearly enough to count. This baby will be heard from outside a closed door.

There is an o-ring beneath the cap that keeps it waterproof. The cap must be screwed on tightly to ensure total waterproofing. I have run it completely submerged underwater, so at least we know that works. Note that the Kiss should be allowed to completely dry before the battery compartment is opened.

Battery life will depend on the type of batteries and power level being used. So far, I have gotten about an hour total run time with Duracell alkaline batteries and have yet to replace them.

Care and Maintenance

Being waterproof, the Kiss is easily cleaned with warm water and antibacterial soap. Toy wipes and cleaners will also do the trick. It is important to clean your vibrator before and after each use. This will ensure that any lint or dirt picked up between uses will be removed.

Remove the batteries before cleaning and when storing. Keeping your batteries out of your toy will maximize their lifespan. Just take caution not to get water in the battery compartment when cleaning. To avoid this, always ensure that the cap is screwed on tightly.

If sharing, be sure to cover your toy with a condom. TPR is porous and will harbor harmful bacteria. Always use a condom over the toy when switching from vaginal and anal penetration.

Silicone lubricants can corrupt the integrity of the TPR. Only water-based lubes should be used with the Kiss.

As far as storing goes, the Kiss can be safely kept in the plastic clamshell insert it comes in. While no storage pouch is provided, one can be fabricated or bought elsewhere. A plastic Ziploc style bag will work as well.

Packaging

The box is fun and artistic. It both is and isn't discreet. The vibrator is clearly exposed through a cutout in the front of the box and all the instructions and information are easily accessible on the back. The back states that "sex toys bring more erotic pleasure to the world" and while this may be one of the only true claims on the box, it is not absolutely discreet. Otherwise, the box is tastefully decorated.

There are 2 flaps on the back held closed by magnets. Quality, care, functions and user instructions are all listed on these flaps. Any and all special features are also provided here. However, the material claim is false, not to mention their quality guarantee and allegation towards quiet vibrations.

The Kiss sits in a clear plastic clamshell case. About a month ago, I would have suggested storing your Kiss in the clamshell. Unfortunately, I have since noticed a crease that was formed all around mine. I'd now advise against it and advocate finding a pouch to store it in. The packaging is recyclable, which is likely the best place for it.

Experience

This was without a doubt one of the worst experiences I have had with a toy. Initially, it looked promising. The shape looked nice, the material was said to be silicone, the textures didn't seem like they'd be overwhelming and the squishy flexible tip looked inviting.

Well, the shape did not suit my body, the material is TPR, the texture was prominent and the squishy tip did not help the Cupid's cause.

The first few times I tried using the Kiss were incredibly painful. I was continuously having to add more lube - something I very seldom have to do. The material felt rough and kept pinching my insides. In fact, the G-spot curve, though it could be felt on my G-spot, was actually aggravating me. The flexible tip did not allow much pressure to be placed on my G-spot and the material felt as though it were grinding against me. Once I finally managed to get enough lubrication, the pain subsided and I began to appreciate some of the textures. The end results, however, were unsatisfying. I eventually bottomed out and accepted defeat.

On occasion, I do enjoy some buzzy vibrations. Sadly, these will never be among those vibes. They're numbingly buzzy. Internally, they did nothing for me. I can't even enjoy them elsewhere, and neither can my partner.

After having endured such misery in my own endeavors, I did not want to put my partner's bum through anything even remotely similar. Consequently, I cannot vouch for how this performs anally or on the P-spot.

On a higher setting, the Kiss can be heard from under the covers, outside the the door and then halfway down our hallway. The rigid rubbery material is a far cry from feeling realistic. Though the textures are not decidedly awful, they do not allot for the many negative features of this toy. For that, along with the collection of other reasons previously mentioned, I cannot give the Kiss better than 1 star.

Absolutely excellent and well-written review! You answered every question I would have had about the toy... and of course kept me from wasting my money on this POS.

Thanks for the review! It's disturbing that the manufacturer claimed the toy was made of something it's not...

    Thanks everyone!

@pasdechat: I agree, I'll forever be wary of Shaki Toys from now on.

This was one of the first toys I purchased from EF, I guess I'm lucky I liked it more than you did.

I was angry about the material (not silicone! ), but looking at your pictures it could have been a lot worse. The assembly of my Cupid was much better than what you received, and it lasted a very long time. I keep hoping a true silicone toy with similar design will be released. Sorry this was a waste for you.

I'm really glad to hear that you liked your Cupid better than I did, Petite Valentine. It's nice that they aren't all as poorly made as mine is though. I could see this being a nice shape for others but it just didn't work for me at all.
