Kinky in Pink

While its ears make it a little awkward for internal use, the Kinky Kat makes up for it with great vibration, lots of settings, and a cool waterproof design. Fans of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass will love this toy, and even if you don't you should give it a try!

Use

Doc Johnson's The Kinky Kat is a waterproof silicone vibrator, and can be used internally and externally. While it is completely safe to use vaginally, I found that its unique shape (large tip with pointy ears followed by a tapered, textured body) made it a bit impractical - while the ears don't hurt, they can still be uncomfortable, and it took me a lot of lube to get it in comfortable. Externally, I suggest using it on the nipples and clitoris, as the tip carries vibration quite well.

Because the Kinky Kat is waterproof and made of silicone, it can be used for temperature play. It is not safe for anal play because it doesn't have a flared base. Plus, I doubt it would be at all comfortable, especially for pegging. Don't risk it! It is small enough to be suitable for travel, but make sure to remove the batteries first because there isn't a lock function.

While the packaging and design would make this a great gift, I wouldn't recommend it as a first toy, at least not if the recipient is expecting to use it internally. As long as you tell them to stick to external stimulation, though it would be an excellent starter as it has a non-threatening unrealistic design and has lots of vibration settings.

Material / Texture

The Kinky Kat is made of silicone, which rates a perfect 10 on the EdenFantasys Material Safety Scale. Silicone is an excellent toy material for many reasons: it's nonporous and body safe, easy to clean, waterproof, has no taste or smell, and carries temperature and vibration well.

flex

Silicone can vary in texture and rigidity depending on how the toy was manufactured. This vibrator is mostly silicone around a plastic casing (it holds the battery), and is quite flexible near its tip but is firm at its base. This lets you get a good grip on it while still providing a soft, giving tip to stimulate your body.

There are different textures on each part of the toy. The tip is shaped in the likeness of the Cheshire Cat, with a wide grin, kitty-cat nose, and pointy ears. The ears, as I mentioned above, make insertion a little tricky, and if you choose to go that route you'll want to make sure you have plenty of lube available. The nose is noticeable while inserted, but I did not find that it provided much stimulation. The middle of the vibrator has a spiral around it, formed by the cat's tail, and would be really great if it wasn't so tapered. Because it is much thinner than the head, it's not as easily felt, which is a shame. Overall the texture is probably too intimidating for beginners, but not noticeable enough or more advanced users.

Design / Shape / Size

The Kinky Kat has a very unique design, and it's very artistic while still being fun. It is meant to emulate the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, from his wide grin to his twisting tail.

The ears are pointy, but not sharp, and once fully inserted they were not too uncomfortable. The insertion itself, however, was no picnic, and as such I would recommend that you use lots of lube and (if you wish to thrust with it) only thrust shallowly. The design of the head didn't provide much extra stimulation, but the bottom section of the tail felt very nice. If only it didn't taper so much! I wish I could feel the full length of it.

For external use, the nose and ears were very good for pinpoint stimulation, and they carried the vibrations really well. Even when turned up to the highest setting and with a firm grip on the base, my hand didn't go numb and I didn't find the toy uncomfortable to hold on to.

Freebie comparison

As you can see, this vibrator is not very big. It's perfect to slip into a purse, and even with my freakishly long fingers I was able to comfortably hold the base. Because it's so small, it can easily be stored in most storage containers, and could be tucked into a purse for transportation. It is somewhat discreet, as it isn't realistic, but you'd have to come up with some other explanation for what it is.

Also, if you have a roommate or want to be extremely discreet, be aware that the base of the toy lights up in time with the vibrations. It's a fun effect, but not at all discreet.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Kinky Kat has 12 different vibration settings, with three levels of intensity and various patterns. The vibrations seem to be located mostly in the upper third of the base, but carry very well throughout the cat portion of the toy. Underwater it performed well, and only warmed up slightly. The lights looked really cool in my tub, but if you were trying to have some private time in a pool this would be a dead giveaway to any nosy neighbors. Out of water, it was loud enough to hear through my door, but only barely, and underwater it was silent.

The button was easy to push, and I really appreciated the instant-off function (just hold the button for three seconds to turn it off). When you turn the vibrator back on, it returns to the first setting in the cycle regardless of which it was on when you turned it off, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on personal preference.
    • Easy to use
    • Lots of variety in function

Care and Maintenance

Silicone is very easy to care for - simply wipe it clean with a toy wipe or some toy-cleaning solution. As this toy has electronic parts, it is not safe to boil. Silicone is not compatible with silicone-based lubricant, so make sure to only use oil- or water-based lubes. As oil-based lubricant is not appropriate for vaginal use, water-based is probably the best choice. For the most part this toy does not require detailed cleaning, but you should give the cat's face a little extra attention, as the little grooves that form its teeth could provide a breeding ground for bacteria.

I store my Kinky Kat in its fantastic original packaging, but if you're looking for something a little less bulky you could store it in any toy-box, such as the Lockable Sex Toy Case. Make sure to store it away from silicone-based lubricant and other silicone toys.

Packaging

The Kinky Kat has very high-quality packaging, and would absolutely be appropriate if you wanted to give this toy as a gift. The packaging consists of an outer sleeve and a box.

Outer packaging front

Above you can see the sleeve. It is made of sturdy, flexible paper and its front features a picture of the toy as well as the name of the product line and manufacturer. The background is white with embossed cursive writing, which I was unable to read and suspect doesn't say much of anything.

The back of the sleeve features a blurb about the toy and lists its functions, and instructs you to visit the manufacturer's website for warranty information and product registration. If you do so, you can receive a one-year warranty on your new toy! Pretty cool.

Box edge
inside box

The box is made to look like a book, and three of its edges are colored gold and patterned to look like pages. it is held closed by a magnetic flap, and inside there is a picture of the complete Wonderland line as well as a blurb about the products. There's a fuzzy plastic shell that holds the vibrator. While this is appropriate for storage, it can be a hassle to open and close, so you might want to throw out the sleeve and just use the box.

Follow-up commentary
After a few weeks, the novelty wore off, and I haven't used this toy much since. While it does look really cool and has a great sound-to-vibration level ratio, it just doesn't have a convenient shape for internal use, and external vibration-stimulation isn't really my thing. I feel like it's such a shame - I really want to love this toy! I'd still totally recommend it for someone looking for external stimulation, but for me this toy will probably continue to languish in its box.
