How Sweet the Lily!

If I knew anyone who wanted a first vibrator, either Lily or its twin sister Nea would be the first choice to pop into my mind. Lily is everything someone would want from a clitoral vibrator: quiet, discreet, powerful, with a nice variety in functionality, and rechargeable to boot!

Pros

Use

What Lily really shines at is being an unobtrusive clitoral vibrator. There is absolutely no way you can use it as an insertable: this bean-shaped toy is strictly external only! Because of its tiny shape, you can pack it anywhere. Drop it in a pocket, toss it in your purseā€”at a glance, it looks like a cellphone, or a small laptop mouse, perhaps. Because it's not phallic in design, this is a toy absolutely made to be brought out during an encounter. Slip it in between two bodies, crack it out for some additional stimulation during oral, or use it as a tease during foreplay.

That's not to say Lily is a bad solo toy. The design makes it easy to use for solo purposes as well, but because of the design, it's optimal for couple use where a longer or larger toy might be difficult to introduce. If you've been looking for a non-threatening vibrator to introduce, Lily (or its twin sister Nea) might just be it.

Material / Texture

Lily and Nea are nearly identical in design. The only difference is that Lily is coated in a silky soft silicone, and Nea is a smooth, hard plastic. I found myself drawn to the silky softness because it adds a little bit more drag. It reminds me of other LELO toys with silicone coatings.

There is no texture, so it really should come down to whether you prefer the slight drag of silicone or harder plastic.

To touch, Lily is like playing with a silky rock. It's completely firm, not flexible at all. There's a tiny bit of drag from the silicone coating, but it's not sticky at all. It moves smoothly across skin. It doesn't smell and it's very non-threatening.

Design / Shape / Size

Many people compare the Lily/Nea toys with beans. I think they remind me of small mice, or curved cellphones. The shape was designed to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand, and it can be easily held and controlled with two or three fingers. Some people may find the pointed nose uncomfortable. It's shaped to deliver more pinpoint of vibrations than a wider vibration cycle, but turning it on its side will diffuse and spread out the vibrations for people who prefer a wider vibration.

I wouldn't feel afraid to keep this toy on my desk. Unless someone knows their sex toys, it looks like a cellphone. I own the black version. Only if someone picks it up are they going to notice the control panel and the logo. Otherwise, this tiny toy could be tossed into a purse or left out for play. It's designed for ease of use. The sleek design is both attractive, and non-threatening.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Lily is a clitoral vibrator and I would be disappointed if its vibrations were situated anywhere but in the nose. It delivers precision vibrations. If you prefer a broader vibration, this may not be the toy for you. It can, however, be turned on its side to spread out the vibrations more.

The shape is designed to cup the natural curve of a body, and fit comfortably into the palm of a hand.

The problem with this is, of course, that the buttons are on the underside, on the butt of the toy. I found I had to hold it from the butt with my fingers instead of holding it cupped in my hand. This worked optimally for me, for control of the buttons, and the angle, but people who hold their toys differently might find it awkward to manipulate the buttons while in use. I prefer this design myself (buttons on top are out of my reach the way I hold things), but keep in mind the position of the buttons before making a purchase: is this something that you personally would find awkward or annoying to use?

Lily is whisper-quiet. On its lowest settings, I can't hear it. I can't hear it if I hold it next to my ear. I can barely feel it. Some people can hear a high pitched whine from LELO products, though, and if you're sensitive to those sorts of sounds, you might hear it. On its higher settings, it can probably be heard through a blanket, but in the middle range it could probably be used with someone in the room.

Lily has five vibration modes: constant, three different speeds of pulses, and one that surges from low to high. The only problem with the pulses is to access them, you have to go to the highest speed and then hold down the button once more. They can only be used on the highest speed. If you're particularly sensitive, you may not be able to use the patterns. The variety of speed available in constant-vibration mode ranges from a tickle to a vroom. I can't even feel it on low, and the high is high enough for me. If you're a Hiatchi person, it won't be enough. But for a small toy, Lily packs quite a punch.

One warning: because the lowest setting can really hardly be felt, I burnt out my Lily's battery several times by accidentally leaving it on. If you click both buttons simultaneously it will deactivate entirely and there's not a risk of putting it away on low and coming back a day later to a dead battery.

It has a buzzy rather than a deep vibration.

It's not waterproof. Do not use it in the water. Also, because Lily has a silicone coating, only use a water-based lubricant or risk breaking down the coating.

Care and Maintenance

Storing Lily is the easiest thing ever. It comes with a little satin bag, so it can be tossed in anywhere. It's small, and probably won't be identified as a sex toy on first glance.

The care and feeding of Lily is a bit more problematic. Because of its size, it's very easy to get the whole thing dirty (I found) and the charging port on the top is open. I'm always worried I'm going to get lube in it, or water in it when cleaning. It's easy to wipe off with toy cleaner wipes or a damp cloth, but be very careful if you're going to rinse it off in a stream of water. You want to avoid getting the controls and the charging port wet.

Because the silky coating is silicone-based, do not use silicone lubricant.

Packaging

LELO's packaging never disappoints. If you were planning on giving a gift, all you need to do is stick on a bow and it's ready to go. The outside box is a nice glossy, minimal box designed around the color theme of the toy, with a picture of the toy and nothing on it that really screams "this is a sex toy." The box inside is a nice matte box with LELO's logo heat stamped on, which would make a wonderful gift box.

Inside, you'll find the toy, the charger, a bag, and the warranty and instructions. It comes with everything you need, and it's very classy packaging. No bikini babe models or uncomfortable imagery... LELO's packaging is as sleek as their toys.

Personal comments

Lily very quickly became my go-to vibrator. The design is comfortable for me to wield, it's quiet, and it gets the job done. Since being able to hear a motor annoys me, I like the fact that, on half-power, I really can't hear it through my covers.

Maybe I'm more sensitive than a lot of other ladies, but the power contained in Lily is enough for me most times. Right now, it's all I could want: rechargeable, quiet, and just enough power to push me over the edge. For now, it's got a fond position in my top drawer.
Follow-up commentary
With a lot more use, I've grown to be able to hear the high pitched noise some people mention hearing in their reviews. I can't hear it all of the time, but it's worth noting that for someone particularly sensitive to sounds, it might be an annoying sound. Maybe enough to get maybe a bee-and-a-half on the noise scale because Lily is still quite quiet. It's worth noting that over extended use it might develop that high pitched, though still quiet whine.

Lily doesn't have all that much vroom and though it was my first clitoral vibrator and I'll always have a soft spot for it, I can't help but feel sometimes like I'd love a bit more power. Sometimes a lot more power. Even if it is the go-to toy I reach for, I can't help but feel like it needs just a bit more oomph.

I love the design, the feel, the quality, but it really doesn't have the oomph some users will require.

Lily is still my go-to toy for most situations.
