Give Me a "Hand"? Not Quite.

As far as pocket rockets go, this Doc Johnson toy is a good buy. The price, waterproofing, and range of options make this worth checking out, especially for a travel vibe. That being said, I'm not a fan of the hard plastic, the metal top, or most of the attachments.

Use

By itself, this pocket rocket can be used for stimulating the clit, as well as other erogenous areas. With the included five attachments it can also be used to penetrate vaginally. It is not, however, recommended for use with anal penetration as it is slim and it, or any of the attachments, could easily get "lost".

Small, discrete, and relatively quiet, it is perfect for travel, though traveling with the attachments might be cumbersome. It's waterproof, so it can also be used in the shower.

This was one of my first vibrators, and I would say that it's an excellent choice for beginners. The variety of attachments give a newbie a perfect opportunity to explore a wide variety of sensations. For more experienced vibrator users, it's also not a bad buy, though I think the attachments are a novelty that can wear out pretty quickly. As a pocket rocket, though, it's of decent quality.

Material / Texture

The body of this pocket rocket is made of a hard plastic material, while the 5 attachments are made of a firm PVC. There is a light smell coming off of the attachments when unboxing them, but it quickly fades when exposed to air.

At the top of the rocket are 3 metal nubs to diffuse vibrations through the attachments.

The various attachments are, for the most part, smooth. There are some details on the hand and tongue shaped attachments that might be counted as texture, but this does little in the way of any added stimulation. One of my biggest complaints about this toy centers around the tongue and finger attachments. There are very pronounced seams on both of them that made them seem unsafe to use. In fact, I found the hand to be almost unusable, as the tips of the fingers were very sharp. I did not have this problem with the other attachments, however.

I found that the body of the rocket degraded over the course of a couple years. The logo scratched off pretty quickly, the color became cloudy, and the plastic began to show scratches and dings. Nothing lasts forever of course, and for the price, getting a couple years' use is more than fair. Still, plastic is not necessarily known for its safety or durability when it comes to sex toys either, and this should be kept in mind.

Design / Shape / Size

The body of the pocket rocket itself is a standard, cylindrical shape, exactly what you would expect from a toy of this kind. The insertable area is rather small, and the attachments don't add much in the way of length. Because of this, I found the vibration to be the only real enjoyable part of this toy.

The attachments:

The shapes of the five included attachments are:
- G-spot nub: A small, stout curve that turns the pocket rocket into a G-spot stimulator. Probably my favourite of the attachments.
- G-spot tickler: A thinner, longer attachment, not unlike a smaller version of a popular Hitachi Magic Wand attachment.
- Ridges: One small ridge tapering down into a fatter bulb. Kind of fun, but I feel like it's a shape that would be more fun to use for anal play (which would be unsafe with this type of toy).
- Tongue: Molded in the shape of a tongue, complete with realistic detail. A sharp seam running around the front and sides makes this uncomfortable.
- Hand: A hand with two hooked fingers. The 2 hooked fingers act as a G-spot stimulator, but they're not large or firm enough to give any meaningful stimulation. The fingers are also very sharp.

The first three attachments are likely the only ones that will see regular use. The other tongue and hand seem more like a cute "extra" than anything, and of the attachments they give the least amount of stimulation.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The toy runs on one AA battery that is housed in the body of the vibe. It has a decent battery life, and runs pretty quietly.

The vibrator's one speed can be turned off and on by twisting its base. The upside is that it is unlikely to turn on by itself, so the Ultimate Mini Massager is perfect to travel with. However, it can be difficult to control when it's lubed up, and the battery compartment has a tendency to open if it's turned too far while turning it in the off position. This can especially be a problem if the vibe is being used in the bath, because it will break open the waterproofing. Caution should be exercised in this case.

The attachments are easy to switch, easily popping on and off. I never had an issue with any of the attachments becoming loose or falling off during use. One drawback to the attachments is that they seem to dampen the vibrations significantly, far too much for my tastes. With that being said, I do not recommend using this pocket rocket without one of the included attachments. I found the metal nubs at the top of the vibe to be irritating, and the space between the metal nubs and the plastic housing collected "cooties" that were difficult to clean off. The metal does not seem to be high quality, and I noticed some oxidation over time.

Care and Maintenance

Care and maintenance of this toy and its attachments are easy. Because it is waterproof, it can be run under warm water and washed with anti-bacterial soap, then towel dried with a clean cloth. The PVC heads can all be washed in a similar way, and either towel dried or left out to air dry.

Because the plastic and PVC cannot be disinfected, nor can the toy really be used with a condom (it's much too small), this vibrator cannot be used between partners.

All types of lubricants can be used with this toy.

It is also very easy to store and travel with. The rocket itself can be stored in a purse with no problems; I have traveled with mine on several occasions. Because the attachments are PVC instead of silicone, they do not attract dirt and dust, and only need a quick rinse before use.

Personal comments

Overall, I had a decent experience with this toy as a first vibrator, but I don't think it would be a good purchase decision for me now. I was most disappointed by the hand attachment, which I thought was not only "kitschy" and cute (which is how I pick most of my toys), but would be stimulating as well. Instead I found it unusable. Bummer!
