Floats like a butterfly, buzzes like a bee, works like a charm.

The Butterfly Kiss is a simple but versatile toy with cute styling and enough power to stand on its own. The waterproof casing and push-button controls make it easy-to-use in just about any setting and it's quiet enough to use in a dorm or thin-walled apartment. Take off the TPR portion and you have a great alternative to a larger bullet or smaller slimline vibe that's completely gender-neutral and non-representative. Good for first-timers or anyone who wants an inexpensive vibe.

Use

While the Butterfly Kiss is promoted as a dual-stimulation or g-spot toy, it's too flexible and small to do much internally. Where it shines is in strong, steady clit vibrations on the highest setting and hidden versatility for those willing to go to a little extra effort.

In its default state, the Butterfly Kiss can be used a few different ways. With the "bulb" inserted, you can turn the butterfly to stimulate either your clitoris or perineum. Both are fun, though I personally need direct clit stimulation to get anything done in under a year or so. The lowest setting is nice for teasing or warm-up and is pleasantly rumbly, while the medium is strong enough that I use it most of the time and can orgasm in a couple minutes if I'm in the right mood.

The highest setting is quite strong-really. With some lube on and around my clit, the butterfly stimulator feels like some high-octane, space-age version of oral sex and flutters like crazy. While the buzzy vibrations can be numbing, I've yet to use it long enough on that setting for it to become an issue-because it's pretty much a guaranteed 60 seconds to orgasm.

The bulb can also be inserted anally with a condom or toy cover. This felt interesting, but isn't something I feel the need to try again now that I've done it once. The sensation mostly made me feel the need to scratch my butt, which is not particularly sexy or fun. For anal play, it's worth it to find a toy designed specifically for that purpose.

That secret use, for adventurous folks? Well, after I had the Butterfly Kiss for a while, I was playing with the bottom edge of the TPR cover and realized it wasn't glued on or fastened in any way. With some effort it can be pulled off the toy entirely (and put back on,) leaving you with a smaller, more basic hard-plastic vibe. In this form the Butterfly Kiss is more versatile, with a design that works well between two bodies, on nipples or other erogenous zones, and used in conjunction with a dildo.

Material / Texture

The colored part of the Butterfly Kiss is TPR, or thermoplastic rubber. TPR is somewhat porous and should not be shared or used anally without a condom or toy cover. It should be cleaned before and after use. The material is very firm to the touch without a lot of give, but bends easily. It is not hard to bend the internal part of the toy all the way forward or back. TPR doesn't pick up hair and dust as easily as some materials, but should be kept in a clean bag or box.

The translucent white/clear part of the toy is hard plastic, which can be cleaned with soap and water or alcohol. Plastic is non-porous.

Design / Shape / Size

As the Butterfly Kiss was my first vibrator, I appreciated the small size. Now, I wish there were a slightly larger version, as I like to use it hands-free and the internal part almost, but not quite, keeps it anchored in the right position.

The single button on the base of the toy offers enough resistance that I would be comfortable packing and traveling with the toy without fear of it turning on in transit. The design is not discreet, but is small enough to fit in a makeup bag or purse and is very light, even with batteries inserted.

On one hand, I like that the design is quite cute and girly...and on the other hand, I hate that it's so cute and girly. The colored TPR is actually fairly pretty and has a slight iridescence. My Butterfly Kiss is pink, and there's a blue sheen to the material that gives the color depth.

I also like to take the TPR part off of the toy and use just the hard plastic section, which also looks cool as it is clear and you can see the batteries and spinning motor.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Butterfly Kiss has three speeds accessible by a single push-button control on the base. The button is a flexible rubber material and is not too difficult to push, although it can be a pain to change speeds during use. From off, one click gets you to low, then another click for medium, then high, then off. This is good enough most of the time, but I do sometimes want to move down from one setting to another which can require several clicks.

The vibrations are concentrated right underneath the butterfly stimulator, which is good. They also travel pretty well to the insertable bulb, which has a slightly different sensation because of its smoothness.

Each setting is slightly louder and higher-pitched than the last. On the lowest setting, it is quiet enough to be muffled under a quilt or other somewhat substantial covers. The highest setting is comparable to the loudness of my laptop's cooling fan at its highest setting. It is much quieter under some blankets or a comforter and even out in the open, is quiet enough that I'm comfortable using it in a (non-shared) dorm room, but in a very quiet setting or home it would probably be noticeable from outside the door.

The battery compartment opens with a simple twist of the base. In nearly two years of ownership I have never had a problem with opening or closing the compartment, and it stays closed without worry of it opening in a bag or suitcase. The waterproofing is also solid, with a rubber o-ring inside. I've used the Butterfly Kiss in the shower and bath without issue. A set of two AAA batteries usually lasts me about three weeks with light use, though at the tail end of those three weeks there is a noticeable drop-off in strength. It doesn't go through batteries too quickly, but having a second set on-hand is a good idea in case you turn it on to find that it's not as strong as you'd like. When not in use, the batteries keep their power well.

Care and Maintenance

Before and after use, I clean the toy with warm water and regular anti-bacterial soap. To prevent the material from picking up dust or lint, I keep the toy in a plastic bag.

The material is compatible with any kind of lube and shouldn't react with other plastics or silicone, though I always do I spot-check on the base of the TPR part to make sure that a given lube doesn't do anything weird to the material.

Since the Butterfly Kiss is not too big, storage has not been an issue. In a plastic bag in the sock drawer, a purse, a lunch bag, or a makeup caddy, it's easy to find places to fit the toy and a spare pair of AAA batteries.

Personal comments

The Butterfly Kiss was my first vibrator purchase. The price-point was attractive and I'd read some positive reviews, so I took the plunge. It's really a great option for anyone but the most dedicated vibrator connoisseurs, and is still going strong after nearly two years of light-to-moderate use. When I can only pick one toy to bring with me, I choose the Butterfly Kiss because it can be used in a bunch of ways and is small and quiet enough to use most places. It's certainly not perfect, but I've yet to find a more versatile toy at such a low price. It's been a positive experience all the way, even if the advertised g-spot action is more or less wishful thinking on the manufacturer's part.
