Dotty - super cute mild vibe

Dotty is great if you're after a teasing toy with light vibrations that looks pretty and isn't intimidating. It has a safe material and is great for beginners. It is not a great choice if you're into stronger vibrations.

Use

The Dotty is a great vibe to warm up with, but I didn't find it intense enough to finish me off. It only has one vibration setting which is relatively weak. It's great for sensitive areas like nipples, and the dots are fun for teasing the clit and labia. The dotty is insertable, but it's too short and flexible to get my g-spot properly, and too thin for really satisfying penetration. I use this toy to get myself aroused. The vibrations are a great gentle way to warm up, but I definitely want something more intense to switch to after a bit.

I only tested this for solo play, but it would be a good introduction to using toys with a partner: it's small enough to be non-threatening, no complicated settings to cycle through, plus it has a handle!

This would be a good beginner vibe. It isn't threatening. It's easy to figure out, and it can be used internally and externally.

Material / Texture

The packaging says the Dotty is "Pure Silicone," but the handle feels like plastic to me. There was a tiny bit of scent, but only if you deliberately looked for it. I didn't notice it at all (and I'm super picky about smells). The body is pleasantly smooth with two nubs near the tip. The nubs add sensation (particularly when used on the clit) without being intimidating. If you're a beginner, Dotty could be a good introduction to a little bit of texture without being overwhelming.

Design / Shape / Size

I bought this toy because it just looked so darn cute! I love the look of the design, aesthetically speaking, it's great! It has a lovely, slightly curved shape, and the bumps on the end add visual interest.

The size of Dotty is definitely on the smaller side: almost 5 inches long with the handle (about 3.25 inches without), and under an inch diameter at the widest part. This is fine for a clit vibe, but won't really satisfy if you're looking for penetration. That said, its size makes it a great choice for beginners since I can't see anyone being intimidated by this little guy.

Dotty isn't realistic at all, and you might not guess it was a vibrator (though I don't know what else it would be). This, combined with its small size, makes it a good travel choice, though I'd definitely take the battery out. If it was packed badly, I could see this turning on accidentally, since there's no locking mode.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Dotty's vibrations are distributed pretty evenly through the silicone section. There is only one vibration setting which I found pretty weak. I like medium to stronger vibrations, but I don't think the vibrations are strong enough to satisfy most people. I could feel the vibrations externally but not internally (but I don't think this toy is designed for much internal use anyway).

The top third of the silicone section is really flexible, but still carries vibration quite well. The flexibility is great for clitoral and body stimulation, but less functional if you're trying to reach your g-spot; you just can't get the right pressure. I'm not sure if this was designed for g-spot stimulation, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The bumps near the tip really add to clitoral stimulation. They distribute the vibrations very nicely indeed. The bumps don't really do anything for any other part of the body though. I get similar sensations just using the tip.

My main problem with this toy is how the on-off switch is designed. The handle on the end turns to the right to turn it on, and the left to turn off. If the toy is off, the battery compartment isn't sealed properly, so the toy isn't entirely waterproof. I remove the batteries to clean it because I'm worried about water getting in when the compartment isn't sealed. That said, the simple on-off is very nice for ease of use.

One of the nice things about Dotty is how quiet it is! I can hardly hear it through a comforter. You could probably use this with someone in the room without them noticing (I didn't test this though).

Care and Maintenance

Dotty is pretty easy to care for. I just wash with mild soap and water, though I do have to remove the batteries or turn it on to get it fully waterproof. You want to make sure to clean around the bumps thoroughly, as residue could get caught there if you aren't paying attention. Since this is a vibe, boiling or dishwashers aren't a great idea.

Since this didn't come with a storage bag, I made one for it out of cotton, which works well. Remember not to store toys touching each other, and to clean before and after use!

Dotty is silicone (with a plastic handle), so water-based lubricants are recommended, definitely avoid silicone-based ones.

Packaging

The packaging wasn't very discreet. While there were no overly graphic pictures, the box was transparent and it's pretty obvious you're buying a vibrator. If you're giving this as a gift, you'd probably want to wrap it. The packaging isn't great for storage. It's a little bulkier than it needs to be and doesn't come with a storage bag.

An information slip is included in several languages, but it's general information about California Exotic's vibes and doesn't relate specifically to this one. Luckily it's pretty easy to figure out where the battery goes and how to turn it on.

An N battery is included, which is great because that's such a weird size. It's a decent battery, still going after a few uses.
Follow-up commentary
It's not so much that it's a bad toy, it's that N-batteries are irritating to find and I never have them on hand. I might use this toy if I had N-batteries, but I don't care about this toy enough to try and remember to buy them. So I basically never use this one any more. Oh well.
