Closer To A Firecracker Than A Rocket

I think the velvet pocket rocket is an okay toy. It offers medium intensity vibrations in a small body. The vibe seems to be put together pretty well and is made of a non-porous material. The size is great to carry with you in a purse, bag, or pocket. Unfortunately, this only offers one vibrating function: a constant, medium intensity vibration. It's also pretty loud for something so small.

I don’t always go for the free gifts Eden offers with orders. Sometimes the gifts are items I’m not interested in at all or they are something I already have a similar version of. I decided last minute to add the most recent free gift, the free pocket rocket vibe with any $70+ order, to my cart. I chose the Rose colored pocket rocket.

The velvet pocket rocket by Doc Johnson comes in just a plain plastic bag. There’s no information on material, safety, what batteries to use with it, or even the country it was manufactured in. Receiving products with absolutely no information attached to them makes me a bit uncomfortable about trying them. Thankfully Eden lists all the necessary information for this vibe on the product page.

The velvet pocket rocket is made out of velvety coated plastic. This material is non-porous, latex-free, and phthalates-free. Unlike just plain old plastic, this feels a bit softer and velvet-like if you run your fingers over it. The nubby attachment on the head of the vibe is made out of a clear plastic. Unlike the rest of the pocket rocket, the attachment is just regular, slick plastic. The attachment can be removed if desired. None of the pieces of the vibrator have any seams on them, though I did notice a bit of what looked like glue underneath the attachment. I was able to wipe it away with my fingers. Plastic toys are safe to use with any water or silicone based lubricant.

There are three metal bumps underneath the attachment on the head. If you’re more sensitive to hard, nubby textures, you may want to remove the attachment and use just the vibrator. The metal bumps feel much smoother than the nubs.

I was a bit surprised at the size of the toy. It’s actually really small. It measures 4 inches in length. The circumference is 3 ¼ inches around the head and 2 ½ inches around the base. The head is about as big around as a quarter.

This is a really basic vibrator. The base has three options for turning: open, off, and on. Turning the base towards “open” pops the base off so the battery can be inserted or removed. Sliding it to “on” turns it on for use. There is only one vibration setting, which feels to me like the medium setting on most vibrators. It does not feel overpowering to me, yet it isn’t so light that I can’t feel it. It should be a decent amount of vibrations for most users, however some may find they desire more power. The vibrations this toy puts out are more buzzy feeling and sounding, rather than deep and rumbly.

To power the pocket rocket, twist off the base and insert one AAA battery. I recommend removing the battery once you’re ready to put the toy away. Leaving the battery in may cause it to corrode and wreck the toy.

As far as the noise level goes, this is a pretty loud toy. It’s definitely louder than quite a few plastic vibrators I have tried. Most of the noise comes from the vibrating mechanisms and the battery banging against the plastic body of the pocket rocket. The vibrations themselves don’t seem to be too loud. I think the noise level of this vibe is comparable to that of an electric toothbrush. It’s definitely identifiable through a closed door, however with some background noise like fans or music it should be mostly covered up.

The velvet pocket rocket is designed for external use only. It’s great for clitoral stimulation. It can also be used to stimulate the nipples, testicles, penis, or around the anus. I do not recommend inserting this toy anally as it does not have a flared base and can become lost inside your body during play. The small size of the vibe and the design of it make it a poor choice for internal stimulation. I suggest looking elsewhere if you want a toy you can use for internal vaginal stimulation.

I would not consider this toy waterproof. The base is not reinforced with a rubber ring to seal out moisture. It also pops off very easily, rather than screwing on tightly like other toys.

I have used the pocket rocket for clitoral stimulation. While it was not the greatest, I think it was at least good enough to be a warm up for more intense toys. The lack of vibrating functions really killed it for me. I like to switch it up a little, and having just the one setting made me want to set it aside for something else.

Experience
To clean the pocket rocket, you’ll want to wipe it down with a toy cleaner and a cloth or some paper towel. I do not suggest submersing it in water to clean it. It can also be wiped with a damp, soapy cloth and wiped again with another damp cloth. It can be wiped dry or left sitting out to dry. I did not notice any lint or hair sticking to it when it was toweled dry.

I definitely suggest storing the pocket rocket in a resealable plastic bag. This will keep it clean and ready for your next use. I have had some issues with plastic toys taking on the colors of other plastic toys when they sit close together for too long. Storing each toy in a separate bag should keep this from happening.

Since the pocket rocket is so small, it should be a good size for travel. It’s a good size to fit in a purse or backpack. The small size also makes it ideal for hiding in a bedroom. However, it is not discreet in appearance. Anyone looking at it will know it is a vibrator.

Since the packaging is so plain, I do not recommend it if you are looking for a good quality gift. It should work fine as a gag gift since you can plainly see the toy in the packaging.

My overall opinion of the pocket rocket is so-so. For the price, you get some decent vibrations. Unfortunately, there’s only the one setting. The noise level is also just a bit too much for me. I definitely suggest looking elsewhere for a vibrator, especially if you intend on using it for internal vaginal stimulation.
Follow-up commentary
This vibrator found its way to the bottom of my toy box pretty quickly. The lack of vibrating patterns and the noise level make me cringe rather than want to use it. I used to think I didn't care how loud a toy was, since no one's going to hear me use it. However, now I feel like I hate loud toys because the noise just bothers me too much to enjoy the feeling of the toy.
