The Calypso is designed to be used for clitoral stimulation but can be used to stimulate any exterior area of the body. It would work best for women seeking a variety of sensations in the exterior vaginal and clitoral areas. Calypso can become a little noisy depending on how you handle her so you might want some background noise while you or your partner are enjoying this puppy!

The body of the massager is made of a PU coated plastic; this is a matte material, therefor being very smooth and easy to grip. The nubbed area is silicone. The material of this toy is non porous, phthalates and latex free, as well as being hypo-allergenic.

The nubbed area of the Calypso that resembles a hairbrush is made of a very soft silicone and has the effect of dispersing vibrations over a larger area. This creates more of a buzzy or tingling surface vibration, where the solid back of the massager is a deeper almost thrumming vibration.

It is easily cleaned and requires a water based lube.

I really loved the design of this toy. The shape of the body makes it comfortable to hold on to and the material makes it easy to grip; both of which contribute to giving you a greater degree of control. The nubbed texture on the end of Calypso has the effect of dispersing the vibrations and creating a sensation that is quite different from that of the smooth side of the toy. I found that I like the smooth side for clitoral stimulation, and the nubbed side feels fantastic when held gently against the exterior of the vaginal opening or on the nipples.

The shape of this toy makes it quite discreet. Though it isn't small, it definitely does not look like a sex toy. The noise level is noticeable depending on how you hold the massager. If you grip the handle firmly, the vibrations are practically inaudible.

The biggest problem I found with the design of this was the battery compartment. It is fairly difficult to open. It took me upwards of 5 minutes and a bit of determination to open the base of the massager. Once I had inserted the batteries I noticed that they do not fit snuggly into the battery compartment. This means that when the massager is turned on, they rattle slightly, increasing the noise level. Luckily I discovered that if I hold the base tightly, the massager becomes very quiet. Because of the difficulty opening the battery compartment, I would not recommend this to somebody with weakness or dexterity issues in their hands and fingers.

I found that Calypso was very easy to use once I had figured out how to use it. There is a one push button control which was conveniently placed, and made changing settings easy to do without looking or adjusting my grip.

This is a multifunctional toy. There are a number of settings ranging from a gentle vibration, to stronger vibrations, with a variety of escalating and pulsating settings. The vibrations are located in the same end as the nubbed texture of the massager; they are somewhere between a buzzy and thrumming vibration, not the higher pitched type of vibrations you get with the bullets.

Vibration settings include:

1. straight vibration
2. mid speed, mild pulsing vibration
3. low vibration, high vibration, high burst.
4. 3 speed pulsing vibrations, strong and slow to fast and weak
5. Escalating vibration
6. 3 short bursts followed by a long burst, x2, 3 short bursts followed by 3 long bursts
7. quick bursts followed by a long high vibration

To turn the toy on you simply press the power/function button once, and once more for each vibration setting. To turn the vibrations off you press and hold the power/function button for a few seconds (3 to 5).

This is a fairly easy to clean toy, just run under warm water and wash with an antibacterial soap or toy cleaner. It is easy to store, it is not tacky so it is not as much of a lint and dust magnet as many toys are, and it seems fairly durable. It would keep well in a toy box or drawer, somewhere safe from exposure to dirt and bacteria.

It is important that you use only a water based lube with this massager. And remember this is NOT a waterproof toy so don't go submerging this in water.

The packaging is a relatively minimal, thin plastic box with an insert to hold Calypso in place. There is a small folded page of instructions for battery insertion on multiple types of Cal Exotics products; these do not include instructions for Calypso. There was a little information on the box, indicating that Calypso is not waterproof, uses water based lube, 2aa batteries, and has silicone nubs.

All in all, certainly not the most information I have received with a product, neither is it the least.

The packaging is recyclable, or can be used for storage, though I don't know how long it would hold up for that purpose.

I really enjoy playing with the Calypso. I absolutely loved the sensation of the nubbed texture on my vulva (outer lips of the vagina). I found that the vibrations seemed to spread over a much larger area while maintaining most of their strength, and they created a sort of buzzy sensation. The smooth end of the massager made for a more satisfying clitoral stimulator because I could direct the vibrations more easily and they were a bit more intense.

Power-wise, this massager is somewhere in the high mid range and the variety of setting means you are not likely to become bored with this toy before you can reach a clitoral orgasm.
