The Hitachi Magic Wand is by now a cliche of a great vibrator. It is intended for clitoral stimulation, but there are many attachments available that fit on the head that stimulate the g-spot. If applied to another toy, such as a butt plug or dildo, the vibrations are strong enough that it would shake the toy. Frankly, with the power this thing puts out, you could vibrate anything. Nipple rings! Cock rings! Urethral sounds! If you can reach it with the Hitachi, it's gonna shake.

It quickly became my go-to vibrator and never leaves my bedside. It has a cord and requires either outlet access or an extension cord for power.

Position-wise, it's best for when you have easy access to your lady parts. Cowgirl, reverse cowgirl, doggy style... (I'm trying to think of cool names for more positions, and coming up short). It's tougher to use in missionary because there's not enough room for the head and body of the vibe.

Don't use this in the shower or bath. Just... don't.

The head itself could be inserted into the vagina or anus but this is not something I've tried.

Sadly, my other toys have been seriously neglected since I received the Magic Wand. This toy is just... perfect for what I want to do (usually just a quickie with myself or a good orgasm during sex). I've never had another toy come close to the regularity and dependability of the Wand.

The body of the Hitachi is solid plastic. The material safety is not as much an issue here as it's not meant to be inserted anywhere. It's very smooth and can be a bit slippery when covered with lube.

The head is covered in a softer, more "pebbly" plastic material with a ridge going around the middle. The neck is made of ribbed plastic. There can be a bit of a drag when using directly on the clit so I usually add some water-based lube and have had no issues.



It gives off no noticeable odor.

This thing is a BEAST. It weighs about a pound or more and is over a foot long. It looks more like a tall microphone than a vibrator. It was easy to figure out how to use it - just plug it in and click the toggle switch into the High or Low position. Ergonomically, it can be a challenge in certain positions to navigate the head and the long handle, but for solo use it has not been an issue.

The head is the size of one of those squishy stress balls you can squeeze, or a racquetball.

It does not have what I would describe as a "discreet" look. Many people are familiar with this toy and would recognize it instantly if you left it lying out somewhere. Don't even try to pretend that it's just a massager. No one's buying it.

The neck provides flexibility to the head and a certain amount of give in all directions.

It has a endearingly '80s look to it, especially on the control panel.

To use, plug into the wall and flip the toggle switch either up into the High setting or down into the Low setting. Click back into the middle neutral position to turn off. This is very easy to figure out and I have never had an issue during use where I was confused or frustrated.

The vibrations are concentrated in the large head. It is not quiet - someone in the same room would definitely be able to hear it. I'd be slightly worried that someone in adjacent rooms could hear it. It definitely becomes louder with pressure - so, you turn it on, okay, buzzy and loud, but then when you start using it the vibration sound is amplified.

Speaking as someone who couldn't find a vibe powerful enough, I was amazed that the Wand on "low" was more than enough for me. I've only put it to the "high" setting a handful of times. Mind blowing.

The corded power is both a huge wonderful bonus and kind of a bummer. I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons here. You get a ton of power that is consistent every time you use it - no fading batteries and desperation while you try to get off quickly before it dies. No trying to find new AAs with lubey hands and a partner's rapidly fading erection. The cons are that it's so big and you can't use it if you're moving a lot or too far away from an outlet. I wouldn't try this anywhere near a hot tub, bath, or shower.

Because this toy hasn't been used internally, it's easy to clean with soap and water. Because of the pebbly texture on the head, I like to use a cleaning toothbrush just to make sure everything's good. I only use water-based lube so that washes off easily. You could use a baby wipe or toy cleaner wipe on it for rapid cleanup. Unless the handle is lubey, it doesn't require regular cleaning.

It's been very easy to care for. I have not had any maintenance issues or loss of power over the 2 years that I've owned this toy. Because of it's sheer bulk and indiscreet appearance, I keep it in the drawer of my nightstand table. You can see the cord coming out of the drawer and into the outlet, but that doesn't bother me. If you were more circumspect, you would just unplug the toy after each time you used it.

This product has been such a positive force in my sex life! It's easy to knock out two or three great orgasms in a row, something that was difficult in the past. It amplifies other sensations, such as during sex or other toys that you're using on yourself.

It stays in my nightstand and I wouldn't consider traveling with the Wand. It's so large and obvious that unless I was going on a Sex Vacation, would be more anxiety-producing than anything. I would choose a smaller, more discreet vibe for travel.

Personally, I probably wouldn't whip this thing out with a new partner because it looks a little intense. I'd stick to smaller vibes for awhile before being like "AND NOW I WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO THE HULK". My current partner loves how much the Magic Wand gets me going and has never expressed any kind of hesitation or reticence in using it.

As a standard-issue, get the job done vibrator, this would be my hands down recommendation for beginners and experts alike.
