An Iconic Orgasm

The Iconic Smoothie is your regular, basic 'smoothie' vibrator - streamlined and honed to near perfection. It works well, it's got great multiple vibrations, and it looks classy instead of tacky like some of its forerunners. It's a standard but quality toy.

Use

The Iconic Smoothie is a basic-basic vibrator. No bells and whistles, just a simple toy that works. It can be used for clitoral stimulation, insertion, or both. It can also be used to stimulate the breasts, nipples, or ease a sore back. It's not recommended anally, though, since it doesn't have a flared base. It can be used by anyone (if you have a pacemaker, consult your doctor) from beginner to advanced of any gender, and is appropriate for just about any (sexual) occasion. It's waterproof, so it can be taken into the shower or used by the pool as long as caution is used to keep the cap securely closed.

The vibrations range from a soft buzz to a hard vibration; there's something suitable for just about any mood or personal choice, unless you're just really picky.

Material / Texture

The Iconic Smoothie is made from a hard plastic that is phthalates free, hypo-allergenic, latex free, and a food-grade material. It's smooth and slick, so little to no lubricant is needed and it's easy to insert. It's also odorless and tasteless and doesn't attract lint. The control dial is ridged to give a bit of grip and make adjusting the intensity easy. The hard plastic carries the vibrations well; the majority of the device vibrates instead of just the tip like some products.

Design / Shape / Size

The Iconic Smoothie is based on the 'smoothie' vibrator design that appeared in the 1940's, according to JimmyJane's information in the package. It's a basic cylindrical shape with a tapered, rounded tip and a dial base control. It's white, so it's fairly innocent looking and could easily be mistaken for a 'personal massager', stuffed into a pillowcase, or maybe even camouflaged as a kitchen instrument of some sort (though not with the cutlery, because it could scratch). It's small enough to travel easily and fairly discretely. It's average sized, so it's enough for advanced users but not intimidating for beginners.

The design is simple, but there's a reason it's been around for SEVENTY YEARS: it works.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This vibe is extremely easy to use and functions just like it's supposed to - strong, uniform vibrations, no cutting out or stopping, smooth transitions to the the next setting. The dial at the base adjusts the vibrations easily, but on the same token doesn't easily accidentally slip into a different setting. It's quiet; the only time noise is a factor is on the last setting, and even then it's not too much to be heard in a different room with the door closed (and, if mostly inserted, even the last setting isn't loud). It's waterproof, and performs just as well in water (though extra care should always be used in making sure the cap is fully on before getting anywhere near the shower).

Care and Maintenance

The iconic smoothie is made from hard plastic and is compatible with all lubes. It's also compatible with all condoms, which is handy since plastic is a porous material. It can and should be cleaned after each use with mild soap and water or a toy cleaner; make sure the cap is closed securely when washing to avoid damaging the toy. It cannot be fully sterilized, so if sharing a condom should be used. Its material won't interact with other toys, so it's safe to store it with the rest of your collection (or in a drawer, or a bag, under your pillow, or in the box it came in - just keep it away from the dog).

Packaging

This vibrator is packed in a smooth paperboard and cardboard box with a picture of the toy on the outside. The packaging belies that it's clearly a vibrator, but does so in a classy way; there are no x-rated pictures or text, and it's presented in a way that would be very acceptable for gifting. The history of the Smoothie Vibrator, cleaning and safety information, and warranty terms are all spelled out on the inner flap. Finally, bright pink cardboard holds contents snugly. All in all it's presented well. The pink did transfer to one part of the the vibrator at some point during shipping, but it came off with a few washes.

It comes with the two AA batteries required for the vibrator, which is pretty handy. The batteries have the JimmyJane name and web address on them, though, so they may not be suitable for use in anything except the vibe if you have curious kids or roommates.

Personal comments

I personally really enjoy this toy and the concept of JimmyJane's 'The Usual Suspects' line, which is a line of iconic vibrators that have been streamlined and made a bit better quality.

Experience

My experiences with this toy have only been good. Since it has both low and high intensity settings, it's good for any 'mood' you might be in. It's also one of those vibrators that I just find easy to achieve a quick orgasm with... or to draw it out and make it a slow build-up to climax. The pointed tip makes it easy to pinpoint the right area, or the whole vibe can be laid down to encompass a broader area.

Since it's so easy to use, low-maintenance, and good in the 'orgasm' department, this is one of the vibes that I'd consider an 'everyday' vibe - the one you stick in the nightstand or under the pillow for when the urge hits you, but you may not have more than a few moments or not really feel like getting out of bed to face the day yet.

Great review. How nice of them to include batteries!

In the pics the luster looks like porcelain. I know it's plastic, but does it look like that in real-life too?
  • Contributor: ? Amanda ?
Really? It's porous? I figured since it is smooth plastic that it would not be?Hmmm. Thanks for the review.

I didn't know hard plastic like that was porous, either -- good information! Also, nice to know ahead of time it comes with batteries. Sometimes the basics stay the best!

Very nice review! I wonder how this one stacks up against the C battery types like this.

Two AA's and it seems to perform so well? Looks good as well.

    AKAme & JR -
Yes, plastic is porous - not in the 'like a sponge' sense, but it will hold germs and cannot be fully sterilized, unlike pure silicone, metal, and glass toys. If you want to compare porousness of materials you can check out the materials pages and safety scales here at EF (each scale appears and products material is linked on its product page). Hope that helps clear up the confusion. Smile

Liz & New - I actually tend to prefer the AA types, but it may just be coincidence. The last setting is actually a little too much for me.

    Laur3n,

It DOES look like porcelain! I almost put it in my review but didn't want to confuse people if I was the only one that thought that way. It's so smooth that it actually feels like porcelain, too, if you're just running your hand over it. Obviously if you tap on it you can tell it's plastic (and it's heavier due to the batteries), but it is very porcelain-y. Smile

I didn't think that hard plastic was porous. *shrug*

Thanks for the explanation in your above comment, though, and thanks for your review.

Great review! I know that vibrators have been around for ages (they were originally used in the early 20th century by doctors to treat "hysteria"), but I didn't know that this particular shape had been around so long.
