For what the hide-a-vibe is made for, I cannot fault it. With its cute case, water play ability, and price point, carrying this toy will make you hum the Mission Impossible theme! Dun dun, dun dun dun dun!
Cal Exotics Chic hide-a-vibe is a discreet vibrator in many ways. It is made for vaginal penetration and clitoral stimulation. Since it is firm, it can be used for G-spot stimulation even though it doesn't have the specific tip. It is great for titillating any skin, such as nipples or neck. It is not made for muscle massage. The hide-a-vibe can be used for solo play, couples play and foreplay.
Being waterproof, this toy is perfect for bath or shower time and easy to conceal, making it more alluring for the student with roommates. Its discreet casing and size is perfect for ladies on-the-go and anyone who wants something they can take anywhere with them.
While the material rating is high, the hide-a-vibe is not designed for anal penetration due to its lack of flared base and color. However, if you are careful, you could use this toy for such a purpose. The PU coated plastic in non porous, so bacteria won't accumulate. If anything, it is best to throw a condom over the vibe to for both aesthetics and longevity of the toy. One can easily tease the perineum and anal opening with the vibrations.
The Chic hide-a-vibe is made of PU coated plastic. It is phthalate and latex free, so both water and silicone based lubes can be used. It is non-porous, so bacteria will not accumulate. There is a slight odor to the toy when opened, but this dissipates shortly after opening (maybe a couple of days out of its packaging). It is in no way overpowering and to smell anything after the first few days you would have to put the product right under your nose. Overall, the case has a bit more odor than the toy.
The hide-a-vibe is smooth with no textures. It is gently tapered, allowing for easy insertion. The vibe is solid and not flexible, allowing for directed, firm stimulation. The feel of the PU coated plastic is surprisingly velvety. It has a bit of a drag when on skin but adding lubricant will make it glide with ease.
This vibe is very beginner friendly in terms of texture and use. However, it is made for anyone who is traveling or wants the use of a vibe with discretion. Thus, toy experts may find this a great addition to their collection during bath time or for convenience.
The hide-a-vibe is a classic vibrator. It has an insertable length of 4.5 inches, which is doable for almost anyone. It is 3.25 inches around, which is smaller than some vaginal weight systems designed for long term wear. All of its dimensions are easy to handle and designed with discretion in mind.
What makes this vibe easy to hide is the casing it comes in. This rectangular box is made to store the toy when not in use. The box comes with a simple top to fit over it to keep it sealed. At first glance it looks like a perfume spray or some other bath and body product. The casing is also made with the same material as the toy. Because of this, the box itself feels very nice. Both the box and vibrator have a little band of raised metal that circles around it, so they match well.
After placing the vibrator in the box, it can go anywhere. The case is long and slender, only large enough for the toy. However, you can squeeze a condom or a couple of travel packets of lube in the case in addition to the toy. It can easily go in a purse without arousing suspicion or place it in your shower caddy when off to the shower. No one will be the wiser.
Chic hide-a-vibe has a turn dial at the base of the toy that controls the vibrations. While it is a dial, it only really has two settings: Low and High. The dial turns the toy on and off as well. It is easy to use.
The vibrations are overall moderate. This is no hitachi wand but it has notable vibration. The noise of the toy is barely noticeable outside a blanket on low. It cannot be heard from beyond the door at high. Thus, the hide-a-vibe is discreet on all points.
This toy takes one AA battery and so far it doesn't seem to guzzle battery power. Simply unscrew the base of the toy to place the batteries.
The hide-a-vibe is also advertised as waterproof. So long as you screw the base on well, no water will get in and ruin the toy. From personal experience, this toy has survived multiple shower times. I have not submerged it completely, (paranoid) so I do not know if it will continue to perform in these conditions.
Maintenance and care for the hide-a-vibe is easy. Soap and water will clean it after use. Because it is waterproof you don't have to worry about getting it wet. Because the vibe contains electrical components, it should not be placed in the dishwasher or boiled. Baby wipes also work well between a weekly thorough cleaning. Because there are no textures, there are no areas for debris to gather.
Since it is white, one would expect a collection of lint on the toy. Because I always keep it stored in its case, I have not observed a significant amont of lint or debris on the toy. Even during play, anything it collects is nothing compared to silicone (lint magnet) toys (nothing against silicone, silicone lovers!).
Both silicone and water lubes are compatible with this vibe.
Again, this toy is exceptionally easy to store in its case. It can go just about anywhere with little worry, whether a toy box or standing proud on your dresser (of course, the dresser idea is not recommended if you have ever-curious children.
The toy packaging is a basic, clear plastic box that advertises the toy. It opens at the top easily, revealing both the case and toy separately. The case is great for long term storage.

There are no "worded" instructions in the packaging. There is only a small piece of paper with diagrams showing proper battery placement for the vibe. However, the toy is very easy to operate.
The case is very sturdy. It holds its shape and would take some major damage or impact to warp or change it in any way.
The Chic hide-a-vibe is cute. It's simple but I love it. I really love the casing and wish almost all toys had some sort of casing like this. The vibe itself is pretty standard, nothing fancy, but really banks on being useful for discretion.
This is the only toy I will take in the shower with me. It simply goes into may shower caddy and no one notices or thinks its something other than a shower/body product. I've also accidentally left it outside of my toy box, with the case, and had people in my room. It doesn't bring suspicion to itself other than its pleasing appearance.
This toy is more for solo play than anything. It can be used for couple play or foreplay, but I find my other toys more suited for couples' time. My boyfriend (the engineer) spent more time looking at the case and wondering if he could make cases for my other toys. I'll keep you updated to see how that goes. The case is really basic, but it is appealing at the same time. Perhaps I'm a nerd, but I am a gal who likes great packaging and storage as much as the toy itself.
Cal Exotics could probably make a profit selling these types of cases for many of their toys.
Extra: I thought I add a picture of how the Chic hide-a-vibe would look if you had it on your dresser with body products.
Follow-up commentaryI still like it1 month after original review
The Chic hide-a-vibe is great at what it does: discretion. This is the perfect toy for dorm and group living, since it is a perfect pal for shower fun. Even outside the shower, it can easily be muffled by a blanket.
So far the vibe shows no signs of wearing down. It cleans well, works just like the first time and have not changed the batteries yet (on about several hours of usage total). I'm still in love with the box and wish other toys had this type of feature.
As a childless individual, this toy can proudly stand on my dresser with my toiletries. it does not call attention to itself, other than the nice make of the box.
If you need a shower buddy or something for on the go, this vibe may be a good fit for you.
