I drooled over this adorable babydoll for a long time before I finally bought it. I was a little worried that it may not fit right, look terrible on me, or be uncomfortable, but none of those are true.
The Vintage Rose Babydoll is a beautiful piece of lingerie that achieves the difficult blend of cute and sexy without crossing over to over-the-top or trashy (no offence intended for those that like more over-the-top pieces. They just aren't my thing). It comes in a clear plastic wrapping, packaged with removable shoulder straps and removable bow. It is made of 82% nylon and 18% spandex, has a padded, slightly molded chest area, and two layers of mesh skirt. It's light, airy, comfortable, and I have to say not scratchy at all. If you've ever had a piece of lace lingerie that you can't wait to get off, and not for fun reasons, you know how big a deal it is to have non-scratchy lace.
You know what? I just realized I didn't mention the included matching g-string. This is mostly because I don't particularly like g-strings, so to me it's like it's not even there. But you may like it. It's made of matching lace, but oddly has no crotch lining. I suppose Coquette must figure that you won't be wearing it for long. Personally, the straps sit so low on my hips it's distracting and somewhat annoying. If you are used to g-strings, perhaps it won't bother you. Me? I wore it for about 10 minutes.
On to care! Hand washing is a must with this piece. I've often thrown lingerie into a lingerie bag and just tossed it in the washer, but I don't recommend it. Mostly because the first time I did actually hand wash it, and this happened:
You see the pink water? We're not exactly talking colorfast here. If you do choose to go the lingerie bag route, I would recommend washing it alone or with like colored items. I wouldn't recommend it, though. As for drying, the instructions say hang to dry. I'm lucky enough to have a flat drying rack that attaches to my dryer, so I ran it on the rack using "very low heat" which is close to just using slightly warm air.
Now we move into actual usage! The first thing I noticed when I took this out of the package is the bow. It's cute, right? But also heavy. Too heavy for the safety pin Coquette uses to make it removable. So heavy, it hangs down and your eye is drawn not to the bow, but the fully exposed safety pin. It gives it a distinctly cheap and unpolished look. The first thing I did was remove it. If I decide I love it, I'll add it back, but I'll sew it on. At the moment, I could go either way. It neither makes nor breaks the look.
When I first slipped it on, the shoulder straps weren't on. Even though the bust area is padded, it didn't add much support and drooped in a very unflattering way. I added the shoulder straps and it was much better and very flattering.
The feel of the babydoll was just wonderful. The mesh is light and breezy, the chest padding is comfortable, and the mesh skirt hides not-so-perfect areas around the midsection. I'm 5'6" and ordered the XL size. The front of the babydoll comes about 3" below my crotch, and the back comes just to the bottom of my rear. Sexy and feminine without being overly revealing.
The highest compliment I can say about it is this: Husband does not particularly care for lingerie. He thinks nudity is better. However, when he saw me wear this, he said, "Well, that is cute!" I'll definitely be wearing this more often. I'm giving it 4 stars, as I subtracted one for the poorly designed bow feature and lack of bust support.
