The little black/red dress that couldn't
This isn't forgiving at all due to the clingy material, which also looks kind of cheap. The perfect body shape for this dress is stacked on top, has a tiny and defined waist and little to no ass. If it looks good on you, it'll probably be versatile, but I suspect this dress doesn't look good on many people. If you have to try it, go for the black. The red is no one's friend.

Pros
Stretchy, feels good on skin, looks good if you're busty, can wear with bra
Cons
Clingy material shows every problem area, short, red and black not cut the same
My experience with this dress was not love at first sight. In fact, it won't grow on me, and it's being returned. This is a shame because I bought it in both red and black in hopes that I would love one of them and I could return the others. There's no difficult decisions to make though. This is just not the dress for me.
Let me start about it's high notes: the rayon mix is comfortable and stretchy. It feels cool on the skin, and it's casual. You can wash it in your machine if you so please. It doesn't seem fussy.
However, it does wrinkle. I could see that plainly when taking the dressed out of the package--clear plastic bags with hooks for hanging--because both were incredibly wrinkled. Wash or steam before you wear, ladies. Secondly, when stretched, the material becomes quite sheer. You definitely want to wear a bra, and the back doesn't drop so low that I couldn't wear a bra. Although, the bra band is clearly visible in another reviewer's photos, and the dress drops low enough in front and back that some slips or shapewear won't work. However, I don't see how you'd want to wear this without something underneath unless you're perfectly svelte.
The stretchy fabric tends to cling, so it shows each and every problem area. Although this is technically an empire waist, it's not going to be flattering on your if your stomach is your problem area like mine is. Ultimately, it looked tight around the midsection. This was especially true with the red one, which was cut a a little smaller than the black one. Technically, you can tie it a little more toward the front to make it fit more loosely, but then this dress hangs awkwardly, not elegantly, from your boobs.
It may just be me, but I'm not familiar with these wrap type dresses. To me, it almost looked like one piece. I didn't realize that when you pull it on over your head only one breast is covered. You have to pull the side over and tie it before you have coverage for both breasts. With the sheer fabric, it's not much, either. The stretching over my bra made the fabric kind of reflective. It definitely looked cheap. I mean, this isn't a very expensive dress but it almost looks like a matte cotton in the pictures.
One thing I do have to say, is that is clung to my breasts in a nice way. I'm only 5"2' so the low cut was pretty low on my. 38C cups. My my boobs looked fabulous because it was snug, but it doesn't seem to me like an XL should be that snug. As you can see some other reviewers' images, though, it'll look completely lackluster if you're not so well endowed.
The scorehard thus far? Big breasts and a tiny waist are a must.
Despite being petite, the dress fell short on me. It barely covered my ass. Leaning over is a no-go. I thought I might be able to wear this out to casual functions paired with a cardigan, but there's no way that's happening. I suspect my well-endowed ass is making this shorter in back. It happens, unfortunately.
Add a small rear end to the must-have list.
It's a shame this looks so poor because it feels great. However, there's one more strange tidbit I must fill you in on before I end this. The red dress I ordered was cut to mirror the black. Red tied on the right, black tied on the left. This isn't the case in any of the model photos or the pictures from other reviewers, so I feel it's worth noting. The dresses use the same exact tag, which features the model in the black dress, so I don't know what's going on. It could be an error or the company might be trying to differentiate between the dresses in some way.
If I had to pick between the two, I'd say the black is the better bet. The red is quite bright and a bit orangey. The black looked disappointing on me, but the red was a disaster. If you're waiting for the black to come back in stock, don't give in. Keep waiting. I can't guarantee you'll love it, but I'm positive you'll like it better in comparison.
