Splitting Zipper
The Satin and Lace Corset by Coquette is absolutely stunning in appearance and an excellent price. The problem with this corset is that the zipper on the side of the corset split as soon as I had tried it on. It's not a strong zipper at all. I wasn't able to tighten the lacing at the back without the zipper splitting all the way from the bottom upwards. I'm not sure if I just received a defect product but it really spoiled the experience.

Pros
Inexpensive, pretty, comfortable, lacing down centre back, width adjustable.
Cons
Zipper quality is terrible, lack of length.
The Satin and Lace Corset by Coquette is available in sizes S-XL. I purchased the size XL. I wasn’t going to get this corset because it looked rather short on the model in the stock photo. I like to wear corsets out in public but need them to cover my belly and hips. I finally caved into purchasing it because I thought it was too beautiful and I hoped that I could figure out a way to wear it without my chubby belly and hips being exposed.
The corset arrived on a plastic hanger and was surrounded by plastic. The hanger would be excellent to use to store the corset when it’s not being worn. The only text on the bag was the barcode sticker. There was a cardboard tag attached to the corset with a few photos of a model wearing the outfit. The tag also stated the company name, company website, product name, colour, and size.
The corset does not come with a panty. The corset is 100% acetate (exclusive of trim). There is no stretch to the material but the width can be adjusted with the lacing down the centre back. There is no flap of fabric beneath the lacing so the more you add width, the more skin will show. The corset is opaque.
I’ve taken a few measurements of the corset laying flat. The lacing down the centre back was done up the way it had arrived; with approximately a ½ inch gap. If you need additional measurements, please send me a message and I can get them for you.
Chest (armpit to armpit): 15 inches
Waist: 14 ½ inches
Width at bottom of corset: 15 inches
Length (armpit to bottom): 11 inches
Length (down centre back): 10 ½ inches
The corset has 8 plastic boning pieces: 4 down the front, 2 down the back, and 1 on each side. The lacing down the centre back is done up with a long black ribbon. The ribbon is ½ inch in width. The width measurements above were taken with the lacing almost done up completely (a ½ inch gap), so there is quite a bit of width that can be added if needed.
There is a zipper closure at the side of the corset. It’s well hidden by a flap of fabric that sits on top of it. The zipper begins at the top of the corset and goes all the way to the bottom. There is ruffle trim along the top of the corset and it goes all the way around to the back of the piece. Half of the 1 inch ruffle trim sits off of the corset while the other half sits below.
The corset has a pretty black floral lace overlay to it. The overlay starts from the top of the corset and goes down the piece. There is 4 inches at the bottom of the corset that does not have the lace overlay. The lace is at both front and back of the corset. At the top centre front there are two sparkly buttons. These buttons have a ½ inch diameter. They are attached to the corset with only a few threads so they would be easy to remove if you wanted to.
The corset has a non-detachable sash. The sash is a black ribbon. The ribbon is 1 ½ inches. The sash is sewn to the very back of the corset. Typically I would suggest using a seam ripper to remove unwanted accessories to a piece like this but it seems to be sewn on there really well. I personally would not try and remove it. There are two loops (one on each side) on the corset that you run the ribbon through. It can be tied into a bow at the centre front.
There is no padding or underwire in the chest area of the corset. My C cups fit fine into the corset. Also, this piece is strapless. The corset does not have loops of fabric on the inside to attach shoulder straps or garter straps to. Below are a few photos of me wearing the corset.
I already knew it would be short on me, and my assumption was correct. The length of the corset is too short for me to wear in public without wearing a cardigan over top and the bottom buttons done up. It shows my belly and hips.

Experience
...continued
When I had first tried the corset on, I was disappointed because the zipper came apart. I was trying to tie the back lacing up by myself and I guess I pulled the lacing too tight. The zipper split from the bottom up. I assumed that it was the lacing and my extremely curvy hips that took a toll on the zipper but even after I fixed it and was very gentle with it, it split again.
This bothered me because I tend to tighten the lacing to my corsets rather tight. After experiencing the zipper splitting, I felt like I had to have the lacing really loose at the back. It basically defeats the purpose. I am not sure if this is the case for every corset or if it was just a defect with the one I received. Either way, it was a real disappointment. I can’t wear this corset comfortably out in public even with a cardigan on because I’ll be worried that the zipper will split.
Other than the zipper being garbage quality, the corset was comfortable. I did not experience any skin irritation while wearing the piece. The care tag states that the corset should be hand washed. I assume that it should be line dried as well.
Overall, I am not very happy with the performance of the corset. It’s comfortable and absolutely beautiful but with the zipper being so terribly weak, I can’t wear it without worrying. As I mentioned, I can’t say if this is just a defect in one corset or if the zipper is poor to all of them. I’ve deducted 2 stars for the zipper issue because if it constantly splits, it’s rather useless to me.

Follow-up commentary
6 months after original review
It's not that I still don't like the corset... but I don't like the fact that the zipper is garbage. I haven't been able to wear this corset out because I worry that the zipper will bust open at any time. This was really disappointing because it's such a gorgeous piece. I noticed that this is another item that's been discontinued since my original review so I guess it's good that others won't have to worry about any zipper issues like I did. As I mentioned in the original review, I am not sure if this was just one defective product or if all of the zippers were lousy.
