Not For Me
I know that the Wet Look Skirt with Boning by Coquette will look fabulous on some people. Sadly, I am not one of those people. I had this idea in my head of how the skirt would look on me and when I tried it on, it was nothing like what I had imagined. The trim beneath the buckles/lacing is less stretchy then the material itself so my chub in this area actually bulges out. Then beneath the trim, it bulges out again. While it didn't work for me, it may work better for you.

Pros
stretchy, comfortable material, appearance, buckles at front of skirt.
Cons
plastic boning is pointless, lacing reveals bum crack and/or underwear, trim beneath boning.
The Wet Look Skirt with Boning by Coquette is available in sizes S-1X/2X. I purchased the size extra large for myself. I have another Coquette wet look skirt that is offered here at EdenFantasys but what drew me to this specific skirt was the buckle detail. I really didn’t care about the lacing at the back, but the buckled front sold me!
The skirt arrived in a clear plastic bag. The only text on the bag was the barcode sticker. There was a cardboard tag attached to the skirt stating the company name, website, product name, size, colour, and had a few photos of a model wearing the skirt. The skirt has hanger loops on the inside of each side of the skirt. I hang the skirt up in my closet but you could also keep it in a drawer.
The skirt is 80% nylon and 20% spandex. The lacing at the top centre back is a black string and reminds me of a shoelace. The buckles and eyelets at the centre front of the piece are a silver coloured metal. The skirt material is stretchy and does not become sheer the more it needs to be stretched.
The measurements below are of the skirt laying flat, not stretched. The lacing at the top centre back was done up the way it had arrived. There was approximately 2 ¼ inches between the lacing. The lacing can be loosened if you need more width to the skirt’s top area. If you need additional measurements, let me know and I will get them for you.
Waistband unstretched: 17 inches
Waistband stretched as much as I could: 30 inches
Length of skirt (taken down side): 13 inches
There are 6 plastic boning pieces to the skirt. There are 2 boning pieces at the front- 1 on each side of the buckled area, 2 at the back- 1 on each side of the laced area, and 1 on each side of the skirt. These boning pieces don’t go down to the bottom of the skirt. Each piece has a length of 4 inches so they are only at the top area of the skirt.
The product page lists the closures to the skirt as lacing and buckles. The only real closure to this piece is the lacing down the top centre back. There are 5 eyelets on each side that the lace criss-crosses through. Like I had mentioned, the “lace” looks like a shoestring. It’s not the most attractive lacing I’ve ever seen. Luckily, it can be replaced if you have a nicer string or ribbon available. The laced area is 4 5/8 inches in length from the very top of the skirt.
The buckled area at the top front centre of the skirt is not a closure to the piece. When I had purchased the skirt, I had assumed that I would be able to adjust the width with these buckles, similar to adjusting a belt. The 2 buckles will not adjust anything. They are just for appearance.
You can slide the rectangular pieces to any eyelet along the “belt” that you’d like, but again, it’s just for looks. Each belt is approximately 5 ½ inches wide and has a length of just less than 1 ½ inches each. The belts are 5/8 of an inch away from each other and each has 5 eyelets along them. You can see an up close photo of the buckles below.
So when I tried the skirt on, I was fairly happy with the length of it… until I turned around and seen my bum crack through the laced area of the skirt. The skirt is pretty short as it is, but if you don’t want your bum crack or underwear showing, you’ll have to pull the skirt up a bit higher. This makes an already short skirt even shorter. You can see in the photo below that I’ve circled the laced area where you can see my underwear. The underwear is sitting at the top of my bum crack.
In the photo above, you can see that there is also a circle around another area. This is the trim that runs around the entire skirt. This second trim basically creates a top section of the skirt. The top section is where the boning sits, the buckles are, and the lacing is. If you look closely (heck, you may not even have to look closely) at this area, you’ll see that this second trim creates a bulgy area above and below it. This is my body chub. This trim almost acts like a second waistband rather than letting the material flow naturally along my hips and bum.

Experience
...continued
I’m 5’6 and the skirt falls upper thigh on me. I would have liked the lacing to have a modesty panel or something so that I could have the skirt sit where I would usually wear skirts on my body without bum crack showing. Since the skirt is not sheer, it would be fine to wear in public but because of the short length, I probably wouldn’t wear it out without a pair of leggings beneath it.
The material is comfortable against the skin and I have no complaints of irritation while wearing it. It’s easy to move around in the skirt because it’s stretchy. The care tag states that the skirt should be hand washed and hung to dry.
I’m giving the skirt a 3 out of 5 because I think it will work excellently for some people but it just didn’t for me. I don’t like how long the lacing is in the back, my bum crack/ underwear show, the shoestring lace they included is terribly ugly, the buckles aren’t adjustable, the 6 plastic boning pieces are useless (I don’t even understand what the point is of having them in this skirt), and the second trim cuts into my thigh/hip/bum fat. On top of all that, the other wet look skirt I have by the company was almost half of the price of this one. The only difference is that with this skirt, you get to reveal your bum crack or undies with a lace back and you get two buckles at the front.

Follow-up commentary
4 months after original review
This has been sitting in my closet since the original review. I have no idea why I'm even holding on to it since it just doesn't work for me at all. I could always try sewing a modest panel at the centre back so my bum crack isn't revealed but I'm not sure how it would turn out. Also, I'd still have to deal with the boning and odd-looking muffin top areas.
